About The Position

The Inpatient Pharmacy Operations Coordinator provides operational support to the Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Services by assisting in the coordination and execution of pharmacy operations. This role serves as a liaison between pharmacy staff and leadership, ensuring that day-to-day activities align with department goals, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards. The Coordinator supports initiatives related to staffing, workflow optimization, compliance, procurement, and medication safety, and is able to assume pharmacist duties as needed.

Requirements

  • PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Active Pharmacist license in the State of Michigan.
  • Controlled Substance licensure required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to lead teams and influence change.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy technology systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Previous leadership or coordinator-level experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Manager to oversee medication procurement, preparation, and distribution.
  • Coordinates daily staffing assignments and workflow within the department.
  • Supports implementation of quality assurance and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in monitoring and auditing pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, DNV, ISMP).
  • Serves as a resource for pharmacy staff and helps troubleshoot operational concerns.
  • Acts as a delegate in the absence of the Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Services, for designated responsibilities.
  • Provides input into scheduling, timekeeping, and resource allocation.
  • Assists with onboarding, training, and competency assessment for new hires and existing staff.
  • Contributes to departmental policy updates and supports staff adherence.
  • Assists with inventory management and coordination of purchasing workflows.
  • Monitors medication usage trends and supports cost-containment efforts.
  • Participates in budget development and tracks key financial indicators as directed.
  • Supports the clinical pharmacy leadership in promoting safe and cost-effective medication therapies.
  • Participates in departmental safety initiatives, incident tracking, and root cause analyses.
  • Serves on relevant hospital committees as assigned.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the organization's values and service expectations.
  • Supports a culture of continuous learning, patient safety, and regulatory readiness.
  • May serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students or residents.
