About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area and department, support in determining methods to achieve store goals and initiatives, and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Manager in Training promotes sales and promotions and serves as an ambassador for Hibbett | City Gear, helping create a distinctive customer experience and build long-term customer relationships. The role assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and includes training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position supports store asset control, selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, inventory awareness, and profitability. It also provides guidance to employees and customers, maintains customer service standards, performs administrative duties, and protects company assets and financial information through effective internal controls. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training supervises employees and may interview and train staff, direct work, and resolve problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks with precision.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling store assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell the company’s services and merchandise.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by supporting accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
