About The Position

At BAE Systems Space & Missions Systems (SMS) we develop and manufacture state-of-the-art RF & sensor technologies that are integrated into space, land, air, and sea-based platforms. The Manufacturing Value Stream Manager role will lead a large team in an operational, functional, and continuous improvement capacity. This opportunity requires a highly motivated, result driven professional, with vision and experience leading Lean thinking to solve system challenges in direct support of the Tactical Solutions (TS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The position will require an experienced operational leader with the ability to think strategically while leading tactical execution. This role is accountable for developing a manufacturing strategy, executing a production system that aligns with customer value, and building an operations team of engineers, technicians, and planners to support early concept Electro-optical and Infrared (EO/IR) systems through the product life cycle from development to full-rate production. They will work cross-functionally on make/buy, production test, and facilities strategies to enable the successful execution of EO/IR programs. The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and the ability to lead teams through complex technical and organizational challenges and change.
  • Practical experience driving a lean management system, including Hoshin Kanri, Daily Management, and Structured Problem Solving.
  • Exceptional ability to convey vision and purpose, align teams, and empower others to see and solve problems independently.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading both tactical daily execution and long-range strategic planning.
  • Proven and exceptional ability to collaborate, delegate, and build relationships across business support functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to tailor communications across organizational levels, from individual contributors up to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for leading a direct staff of 3-5 managers responsible for technicians, manufacturing engineers, and production control specialists.
  • Develop people at every level in a lean management system by coaching problem solving, developing standards, empowering team members, and leading the behaviors that are foundational to learning, continuous improvement, and delivering customer value.
  • Champion a safety-first culture.
  • Define customer value, including cost, schedule, and quality alignment, for a portfolio of EO/IR products and ensure all team members understand how their work contributes to that value.
  • Translate Strategy, Hoshin objectives, and SBU priorities into clear and executable expectations at the individual contributor level and align functional teams.
  • Partner with SBU customers on future technology roadmaps to ensure production capabilities are aligned with new product development.
  • Understand the execution plan and engage manufacturing value stream team members to clearly understand all value creating activities, quickly identify abnormalities in delivery or risk, and proactively communicate with stakeholders.
  • Manage the development and utilization of key performance metrics to drive change.
  • Systematically drive the transformation of our manufacturing operations by utilizing and contributing to our operational vision, collaborating across value streams, and exercising organizational agility, to support a rapidly growing business.
  • Plan, develop, and manage departmental indirect budgets while maintaining stable, competitive, and predictable rates.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
