About The Position

Reporting to the SVP of Finance, the Manager of Compliance provides independent leadership for the Stop & Shop brand’s compliance, ethics, and regulatory programs. The role leads day-to-day program execution and serves as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Operations, Commercial, Human Resources, and Brand Leadership. This position ensures associates and leaders understand and follow applicable laws, regulations, and company policies while promoting a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years related experience in Compliance, Audit, Human Resources or Financial Services
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance frameworks, and risk management practices
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Supervisory/leadership skills
  • Knowledge in Microsoft office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Capability to learn new systems and tools (i.e. Coupa, Power BI, SAP, VMDM etc.)
  • Ability to Travel 50% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of Stop & Shop’s Compliance & Ethics programs, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local legal requirements and company standards.
  • Serve as the Brand lead for Code of Ethics training, disclosures, and Conflict of Interest questionnaires, including review, follow‑up, and reporting to leadership and governance forums.
  • Partner with Legal and Human Resources to assess, escalate, and resolve compliance and ethics matters in a consistent, timely, and well‑documented manner.
  • Provide oversight of the Brand’s third‑party Speak Up / whistleblower reporting platform, including case intake, assignment, trend analysis, and quality review of investigations and outcomes.
  • Prepare compliance and ethics reporting for Brand Leadership, Ethics Committees, and enterprise stakeholders, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and risk visibility.
  • Lead the compliance programs related to Anti‑Money Laundering (AML), government inspections, fines and fees, licensing, age‑restricted products, environmental programs, and other operational regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between Operations, Merchandising, enterprise compliance teams, Legal, and external regulatory bodies to ensure regulatory readiness and issue resolution.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations impacting the Brand and support updates to policies, procedures, training, and communications accordingly.
  • Oversee and enhance compliance training, including LMS‑based courses and in‑person or virtual sessions, to improve associate awareness and accountability.
  • Provide consultative guidance to leaders and field associates on compliance requirements, operational risk, and ethical decision‑making.
  • Support the development and execution of compliance communications, signage, and awareness campaigns aligned with Brand priorities.
  • Lead compliance reporting and analytics, including ethics metrics, audit trends, AML reporting, and regulatory issue tracking, to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Support cross‑functional initiatives and special projects aimed at simplifying processes, strengthening controls, and reducing compliance risk.
