About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Simulation and Health Care Centre of Excellence (HCCE), the Manager, Healthcare Simulation and Technology provides operational leadership and day-to-day oversight for the College’s healthcare simulation, experiential learning, and health sciences lab environments. This is a permanent position that serves as the operational lead for simulation and laboratory technology across the School of Health and Wellness, working in close collaboration with the Associate Dean to implement and advance the strategic direction of the portfolio. The Manager is responsible for the operational planning, coordination, and support of simulation-based and lab-based education delivery, and ensures the effective management of simulation and lab facilities, technologies, equipment, supplies, staff, and budgets. Direct reports include simulation technologists and lab support staff. As a key member of the School’s leadership team, the Manager supports the advancement of innovative simulation and experiential learning initiatives that contribute to student success, accreditation requirements, industry partnerships, applied research, and business development opportunities. The role serves as a primary operational liaison for internal and external stakeholders involved in simulation and laboratory activities and contributes to operational planning in alignment with the Associate Dean’s strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Diploma in management or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience in simulation-based education or a related health sciences lab environment.
  • High level of understanding of simulation processes and best practices.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operational planning and continuous improvement of simulation and health sciences lab environments across the School of Health and Wellness.
  • Operationalize strategic plans developed in collaboration with the Associate Dean, ensuring simulation and lab activities align with institutional priorities, accreditation standards, and industry needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, the Associate Dean, and external partners to ensure simulation and lab environments and operations reflect current technical best practices and accreditation requirements.
  • Identify and bring forward opportunities for innovation, growth, and enhancement of simulation and lab programs, facilities, and technologies to the Associate Dean for strategic consideration.
  • Represent the College operationally in provincial, national, and professional simulation organizations and collaborative initiatives, as directed by the Associate Dean.
  • Provide operational recommendations regarding simulation and lab technologies, learning spaces, and program needs to inform the Associate Dean’s strategic decision-making.
  • Serve as the operational lead for all simulation, experiential learning, and health sciences lab facilities across the School, ensuring efficient scheduling, utilization, and delivery of activities.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all simulation and lab environments, including equipment maintenance programs, supply inventory management, and acquisition of new equipment and supplies.
  • Manage operational and capital budgets in alignment with direction set by the Associate Dean, including forecasting, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring fiscal accountability.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for simulation and lab procurement needs, providing technical specifications, vendor recommendations, and business case support to the appropriate procurement functions, and ensuring timely follow-through on equipment and supply acquisition.
  • Develop and maintain lifecycle plans for simulation and lab equipment and technology infrastructure.
  • Ensure all equipment, software, hardware, and lab supplies are maintained, functional, and supported through service agreements, warranties, and proactive maintenance schedules.
  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices for simulation and lab operations and space utilization, in alignment with the Associate Dean’s direction.
  • Support simulation accreditation activities and ensure operational compliance with accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Develop and implement annual operational plans and performance measures in alignment with the Associate Dean’s priorities.
  • Support the Associate Dean in executing strategies to maximize utilization of simulation, experiential learning, and lab spaces.
  • Identify and bring forward revenue-generating opportunities, partnerships, and collaborative projects with healthcare organizations, industry partners, government agencies, and educational institutions for the Associate Dean’s consideration and approval.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to promote simulation and lab services and learning opportunities internally and externally, consistent with the Associate Dean’s direction.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals, business cases, contracts, and funding applications under the leadership of the Associate Dean.
  • Maintain and develop operational relationships with health authorities, professional associations, post-secondary institutions, and community partners in support of portfolio priorities.
  • Support applied research initiatives and collaborative projects involving simulation technologies and education.
  • Provide direct leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management for simulation technologists and lab support staff.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing team to support current operations and future growth across simulation and lab environments.
  • Establish annual goals, priorities, and performance expectations for staff in alignment with the Associate Dean’s operational direction, and monitor progress toward achievement.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented work environment.
  • Support employee professional development and ensure staff maintain current knowledge of simulation technologies, lab operations, technical competencies, and industry trends.
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements, College policies, and employment legislation as required.
  • Ensure operational compliance with College policies, procedures, applicable legislation, accreditation requirements, and funding agency guidelines.
  • Manage privacy, safety, quality assurance, and risk management processes related to simulation and lab operations, escalating issues to the Associate Dean as appropriate.
  • Develop and monitor procedures that support safe, effective, and operationally sound learning environments across all simulation and lab spaces.
  • Participate on College and external committees and contribute to institutional initiatives, reporting outcomes and implications to the Associate Dean.
