Manager Hardware Engineering

Epiq Design Solutions•Frederick, MD

About The Position

Epiq Solutions develops software-defined radio products and processing solutions for maritime, land, air, and space applications, serving government and commercial enterprise customers. The Manager Hardware Engineering leads a team while remaining hands-on in analog/RF hardware development. The role covers design, analysis, integration, testing, and product support for complex RF circuitry and subsystems, as well as people management, resource coordination, and employee development. The manager provides technical direction and design review support, develops hardware concepts from high-level requirements, and contributes to circuit design from component selection and schematic entry through prototyping, integration, testing, release, and sustaining engineering. The role also leads a team of 5–9 hardware engineers, coordinates work across active development efforts, and supports engineers’ professional growth through coaching, feedback, and performance reviews. The position works closely with Software, FPGA, Digital, Automated Test, and Production teams to develop and support new SDR products.

  • At least 8 years of direct experience developing real-world products from concept through release and after-sales support.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical leadership capacity, including mentoring engineers, guiding design decisions, and coordinating technical work.
  • Design experience in areas such as RF circuits (including LNAs, PAs, PLLs, matching, and filters), power supplies, and A/D and D/A converters.
  • Experience with at least one schematic capture/PCB layout package.
  • Experience with microwave test equipment, such as vector network analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, noise sources, multimeters, and signal sources.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, provide constructive feedback, address performance concerns, and support employee development.
