Hardware Reliability Engineering Manager

Google•Austin, TX
•$188,000 - $274,000

About The Position

As a Hardware Reliability Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of system reliability engineers and own the reliability strategy for hardware throughout its life cycle: concept, qualification, production, and field. You will grow and develop engineers, set the team’s technical direction, and prioritize effort according to program phase and risk. You will establish test methods and qualification processes, provide reliability predictions for new and deployed products, and manage failure review and corrective action through closure. The role partners with hardware engineering, validation, manufacturing, operations, ODM and contract manufacturing partners, and third-party labs, and communicates reliability status, risks, and trade-offs to engineering and operations leadership. The role contributes to creating consumer electronic products that meet high standards for reliability and performance. It works closely with product management and design engineering to define standards, specify tests, supervise test execution, and conduct failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods support product design, while interpersonal and communication skills help secure adoption of technical recommendations. The AI and Infrastructure team develops AI and infrastructure capabilities at scale for Google customers, including Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and Google users worldwide. Its work includes AI models, computing power, global services, developer platforms, TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, data center operations, and systems research. US compensation: $188,000–$274,000, plus a 20% bonus target, equity, and benefits. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
