About The Position

As Manager, Governance and Reporting Controls, you will play a key role in supporting the Client Tax Operations Centre of Excellence by overseeing governance, controls, documentation, and reporting activities related to Scotiabank’s FATCA and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) programs. This role offers the opportunity to apply regulatory expertise, strengthen enterprise-wide control practices, and partner with business lines to support compliant, consistent, and effective execution of global tax reporting requirements. Support the Senior Manager in delivering a strong governance and control framework for FATCA and CRS reporting programs. Provide subject matter expertise on FATCA and CRS requirements, ensuring activities and recommendations align with applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Contribute to the successful execution of Client Tax Operations Centre of Excellence priorities by delivering assigned initiatives in support of business strategies and objectives. Strengthen controls, documentation, and reporting practices for the global FATCA and CRS programs. Apply sound risk management practices in alignment with the Bank’s risk culture, risk appetite, and control expectations. Promote consistent understanding of risk expectations across teams and business partners. Provide support to other areas within the Client Tax Operations Centre of Excellence as required. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: Own the delivery, execution, and ongoing maintenance of FATCA and CRS reporting controls and supporting documentation. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency while maintaining strong business controls and meeting regulatory compliance expectations. Review and Interpret FATCA and CRS Guidance Monitor, review, and interpret updates to FATCA and CRS regulations and guidance issued by regulators, news sources, and industry bodies; assess impacts on Scotiabank’s documentation and due diligence processes. Engage with local regulators, including the Canada Revenue Agency and Ministry of Finance, to support Scotiabank’s position when new or revised guidance is introduced. Participate in industry discussions to help benchmark Scotiabank’s regulatory approach against financial industry practices. Prepare gap analyses for business lines when revised regulations or guidance are released by local regulators. Partner with business lines to provide direction and oversight on the implementation of revised regulatory requirements. Provide guidance to business lines, technology partners, and team members to ensure regulatory changes are implemented effectively, including related design, development, and documentation activities. Track milestones, identify and escalate risks or issues, and recommend mitigation plans where required. Prepare and coordinate executive dashboards, reporting materials, and program status updates on both scheduled and ad hoc timelines. Provide subject matter expertise to support the design and delivery of FATCA and CRS training materials. FATCA and CRS Documentation Management Lead change management activities, including communications related to updates or changes to foundational documentation. Review business line processes and procedures to confirm alignment with regulatory and compliance requirements. Dimensions Work with senior business leaders to support alignment with applicable FATCA and CRS regulatory requirements. Provide regulatory oversight and support to business lines across the enterprise, including Canadian Banking, Global Wealth Management, Global Banking and Markets, Tangerine, MD Financial Management, Jarislowsky Fraser, and international banking countries. Support alignment of business activities with enterprise frameworks and external regulatory requirements. Support adherence to AML and KYC policies as they relate to FATCA and CRS obligations. Represent Scotiabank and the Client Tax Operations Centre of Excellence in internal audits related to regulatory operations. Represent Scotiabank in industry and regulatory committees, including forums with the Investment Industry Association of Canada and the Ministry of Finance.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • 3–5 years of experience in financial services, regulatory operations, compliance, governance, tax operations, or a related control function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FATCA and CRS regulatory requirements, reporting obligations, documentation standards, and due diligence processes.
  • Experience interpreting regulatory guidance and translating requirements into business procedures, controls, documentation, or reporting processes.
  • Experience preparing regulatory gap analyses, executive reporting, status updates, dashboards, or program documentation.
  • Working knowledge of AML, KYC, regulatory compliance, governance frameworks, or operational risk controls within a financial institution.
  • Experience working with business, compliance, operations, technology, or audit partners on regulatory or control-related initiatives.
