About The Position

The Manager, Flight test Instrumentation & Data Center supervises all engineering activities in Mirabel related to aircraft flight‑test instrumentation systems and Flight Test Data Center operations. This includes the design, installation, maintenance, and operation of airborne instrumentation, telemetry systems, and the ground‑based computing infrastructure used for real‑time monitoring, data processing, reduction, distribution, and archival. The organization provides engineering results from data gathered during flight, ground, and shake tests, supporting aircraft development, certification, and product improvement. The manager ensures state‑of‑the‑art airborne and ground systems, continuous improvement, operational reliability, and efficient data‑processing workflows. This role ensures seamless integration between airborne instrumentation, telemetry systems, ground‑based computing hardware, and post‑flight processing tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years related experience.
  • All combinations of related education and relevant experience will be considered
  • Flight-test instrumentation systems.
  • S-band telemetry, RF systems, bit synchronization, PCM, SOQPSK.
  • Data acquisition systems, DAUs, wiring, interfaces.
  • CAFTA or equivalent systems.
  • PC hardware/software, automation tools.
  • Microsoft Office and engineering software tools.
  • Bilingual French/English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineering activities for flight‑test instrumentation, telemetry operations, and data‑center management.
  • Oversee definition, design, installation, validation, and maintenance of aircraft instrumentation systems (sensors, DAUs, wiring, interfaces, data‑recording architecture).
  • Ensure compliance with safety and airworthiness standards; approve instrumentation architecture.
  • Manage troubleshooting, calibration, configuration control, and documentation.
  • Direct telemetry operations, including CAFTA systems, S‑band RF receivers, PCM, IADS, mobile telemetry, and ground data‑processing resources.
  • Ensure timely and accurate post‑flight data reduction, distribution, archival, system security, and user access control.
  • Plan and implement automation and computing improvements for data processing.
  • Coordinate offsite test‑site support and ensure proper instrumentation, telemetry, and network functionality.
  • Provide leadership across Instrumentation, Data Reduction, and Data Center teams: staffing, performance, training, hiring, promotions, and budgeting.
  • Lead long‑term planning for instrumentation, telemetry, and computing upgrades; drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with Flight Test Engineering, IT, technology teams, and facility maintenance to support test objectives and infrastructure reliability.
