About The Position

In this role, you will oversee the performance and activities of the site’s Disaster Prevention Center, disaster prevention programs, and plant Fire Brigade. You will provide technical support related to the design, installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems throughout the site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Occupational Safety or related field, MS or MBA preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Incident Command System (FEMA ICS-100/ICS-200 or equivalent)
  • National Incident Management System (FEMA IS-700 or equivalent)
  • State of Michigan Licensed – MFR/EMR or Basic EMT
  • Must have or be able to obtain within one year, FEMA IS-5.A: An Introduction to Hazardous Material, IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100, IS-120.C: An Introduction to Exercises, IS-200.C: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS 200, IS-230.E: Fundamentals of Emergency Management, IS-235.C: Emergency Planning, IS-240.C: Leadership and Influence, IS-241.C: Decision Making and Problem Solving, IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • Must pass a firefighter physical
  • 7 to 10+ years of emergency management experience
  • 3 to 6+ years of leadership experience
  • 5 years of experience working as a Firefighter, Fire Officer, or 1st responder (Fire or EMS) for a professional, accredited agency
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Positive attitude and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goals
  • Excellent organizational and decision-making skills
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards of Conduct for Emergency Management Professionals
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations and requirements

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of safety and health members
  • Develop and track established KPI’s for team members
  • Develop and execute the budget
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports and helps create career development plans for these individuals
  • Function as a subject matter expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company safety standards and programs, and provides site-wide safety training and performs jobsite safety auditing and incident investigation
  • Enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals
  • Ensure that all environmental reporting and compliance management tasks are completed on time
  • Manage all LGESMI Disaster Prevention Center, Fire Brigade, and Medical 1st Responder programs and activities. Collaborate all fire prevention activities within LGESMI as well as with partners, customers, stakeholders, and government officials
  • Direct the development of strategies for identifying needs for both special and conventional items of fire suppression and fire safety equipment as well as the technologies necessary for the mitigation of technological emergencies
  • Develop response guidelines for new bio-medical facilities; and develops new emergency response policies that are compliant with Department of Homeland Security rules and regulations
  • Collaborate with local, state, and government officials and assists in the establishment of pre-plans and emergency response protocols for first responders
  • Manage an extensive pre-hospital care emergency medical services program
  • Ensure that patient care providers are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians through initial training and recertification
  • Manage a comprehensive, on-going hazardous materials response training program which is required to support the complex hazardous materials (chemicals, biological agents, and radioactive materials) response activity.
  • Participate in planning sessions for major emergency response and contingency plans, as well as government level exercises
  • Develop fire and life safety policies and procedures
  • Act as Incident Commander during emergencies and disasters
  • Facilitate and maintain positive relationships with outside responding agencies (fire, police, ems, hazmat), and insurance and code officials
  • Assist the police during incidents such as active threats, weapons of mass destruction, and bioterrorism
  • Coordinate the mutual aid agreements with appropriate Fire Department affected by the agreement
  • Collaborate with the Division of the Fire Marshal as well as provides guidance and support in accomplishing routine and specialized fire safety assessments and training in this complex discipline
  • Collaborate with the County Division of Emergency Management in the planning and execution of drills and training
  • Conduct thorough and timely Layered Process Audits in appropriate work areas
  • Maintain cleanliness at work site in accordance with 5S3R Standards: Sort, set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned
