About The Position

Toyota Financial Services is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to play a critical role in driving architecture, delivery, and technical excellence across key digital platforms. This role blends deep hands‑on technical leadership with team leadership, acting as a technical authority and delivery owner for major capabilities across Dealer, Origination, Pricing, and Credit domains. The ideal candidate is a strong systems thinker who can lead complex initiatives end‑to‑end, mentor engineers, influence standards across teams, and partner with leadership to shape roadmap and execution strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelorʼs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated leadership on large‑scale, distributed systems.
  • Deep hands‑on expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and microservices architectures.
  • Strong experience designing and deploying cloud‑native applications on AWS, including ECS, Fargate, IAM, and VPC.
  • Proven ability to design and operate event‑driven architectures for pricing, incentives, and credit workflows.
  • Experience integrating credit bureaus, fraud services, and third‑party data providers.
  • Solid understanding of observability and operational excellence, using tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across teams and explain complex technical decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineers, manage delivery, and raise technical standards across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) certification.
  • Experience working within automotive or financial services ecosystems, especially dealer‑centric platforms.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Bedrock or AI/ML integrations for automation, decisioning, or developer productivity.
  • Prior experience balancing hands‑on technical leadership with people management responsibilities.
  • Background in driving platform modernization or large‑scale system transformations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and retain a team of full-stack and backend engineers — hiring top talent, running performance reviews, coaching, and creating clear paths for career development.
  • Lead system design and architecture for complex, distributed platforms supporting PreQual, Credit Pull, Pricing, and Funding workflows
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery of major initiatives—from design through production readiness and operational support .
  • Drive the design and implementation of scalable, fault‑tolerant, and resilient microservices using modern cloud‑native patterns.
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, and Engineering leadership to align technical execution with business priorities and roadmap.
  • Establish and influence engineering standards across APIs, observability, resiliency, security, and cloud practices.
  • Lead API‑first and event‑driven integrations across dealer portals, origination systems, pricing engines, and downstream consumers.
  • Ensure strong production readiness, including monitoring, alerting, tracing, and operational discipline.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on system design, code quality, and operational excellence, building strong technical depth across the team.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team scaling, and manage engineers where applicable.
  • Champion the use of AI‑assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity and delivery quality.
  • Designs APIs and service contracts with frontend performance and usability in mind.
  • Collaborates closely with UI teams to support PreQual, pricing, and credit flows.
  • Reviews frontend integration patterns to ensure efficient data exchange and reduced coupling.
  • Understands data modeling and data flow across services and events.
  • Designs systems that produce clean, reliable data for downstream analytics and reporting.
  • Familiar with event payload design, schema evolution, and backward compatibility.
