Manager, DevOps Engineering

Plexus Worldwide•Scottsdale, AZ

About The Position

The Manager, DevOps Engineering is a hands-on technical leader who designs, builds, and operates scalable, cloud-native systems while leading a team of engineers. As a player-coach, the manager contributes directly to infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and platform reliability to accelerate delivery, improve resilience, and reduce operational overhead. The role leads DevOps and SRE practices; owns cloud-native infrastructure, CI/CD systems, and deployment strategies; and builds a self-service platform that enables developers to deploy, test, and monitor applications independently. The manager also guides the migration and internal ownership of cloud infrastructure, improves observability and resilience, and partners with Development, QA, Product, and Security teams to improve delivery and operational excellence. Success in the first 12–18 months includes delivering a self-service DevOps platform, contributing to Kubernetes (EKS), CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code implementation, improving deployment frequency, uptime, and MTTR, and expanding continuous delivery, automated release orchestration, monitoring, and performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in DevOps or SRE roles.
  • At least 3 years of direct people leadership experience.
  • Mastery of cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as New Relic or Dynatrace.
  • Strong knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience with API Gateway platforms such as AWS API Gateway or Apigee.
  • Ability to use telemetry—including logs, traces, and metrics—to diagnose and improve system performance.
  • Deep understanding of canary, blue/green, and rolling deployment strategies.
  • Willingness to participate in off-hours support rotations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, ethical delivery, and strong stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design and continuous improvement of DevOps and SRE practices.
  • Own CI/CD systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and deployment strategies across environments.
  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure, including AWS, EKS, networking, and IAM.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.
  • Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, and hands-on guidance.
  • Allocate team capacity across support, project work, automation initiatives, and incident response.
  • Continue adoption of infrastructure as code and container orchestration using Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Partner with Development, QA, and Security teams to streamline release cycles and eliminate delivery bottlenecks.
  • Participate in technical architecture reviews and post-mortems to ensure production readiness.
  • Improve system observability and resilience using monitoring tools and automated production alerting.
  • Support migration and transfer of cloud infrastructure ownership from external vendors to internal teams.
