Manager, Data & Systems Integration

Pfizer•New York City, NY

About The Position

Pfizer Global Supply’s Site Supply Transformation team enables colleagues to plan and execute the flow of materials through manufacturing sites by providing effective tools and processes that support data accuracy and continuous improvement. The Manager, Data & Systems Integration designs, builds, and owns integrations between Pfizer’s planning and scheduling tools and surrounding systems of record, including PlanetTogether, Maestro, MES, SAP, and laboratory, warehouse, labor, and data platform systems. The role covers data flowing into planning tools and plans flowing back into systems used for execution. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor position at manager level. The role develops production-grade integrations using SQL and stored procedures, Python, APIs, messaging and event interfaces, and scheduled or orchestrated pipelines. It owns interface reliability in production through monitoring, alerting, error handling, retries, reconciliation, and data quality checks. The position also evaluates integration patterns and trade-offs, understands the operational meaning and downstream impact of data, and develops reusable integration standards and components. The role designs data models, mappings, and master data maintenance processes; provides reliable data for operations research and applied intelligence work; and works with system owners to address source-system gaps. It sets engineering standards, reviews work, shapes the integration roadmap, and provides technical direction to vendors and colleagues through technical influence rather than formal reporting lines. The position partners with Digital, process owners, and site colleagues on architecture, security, validation, release management, operational requirements, and GxP documentation and change control. The scope is global, and the role is part of a small technical team working alongside operations research and applied intelligence colleagues.

Requirements

  • Meet one of the following education and experience combinations: bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience; master’s degree and at least 2 years; PhD and 0 or more years; associate’s degree and 8 years; or high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Expert-level SQL, including stored procedures, complex transformation logic, and query performance tuning across relational databases; working knowledge of NoSQL stores.
  • Strong Python programming capability, or equivalent language capability, applied to data engineering and integration work.
  • Practical experience with multiple integration patterns, including REST and SOAP APIs, messaging and event streaming, file-based interfaces, and batch versus near-real-time designs.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating with at least one enterprise system of record, such as ERP (SAP), MES, planning or scheduling platforms, laboratory systems, or warehouse management systems, including familiarity with its data model and interface technologies.
  • Experience setting technical standards and directing engineers, vendors, or implementation partners as a technical lead or through matrixed influence without relying on formal reporting authority.
  • Demonstrated ownership of production interfaces, including monitoring, error handling, reconciliation, and root-cause investigation of data issues.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into integration designs and explain technical options and trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.
  • Passion for technology and its impact and presence in the industrial world.
  • Ability to communicate, persuade, build relationships, and collaborate with a variety of colleagues.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis and trace and resolve data discrepancies across multiple connected systems.
  • Ability to sustain attention to detail in code, data mappings, and transformation logic.
  • Ability to travel for business approximately 10%.
  • Ability to occasionally lead or participate in early morning or evening meetings to accommodate different time zones and communicate across regions, countries, and cultures.
  • Occasional out-of-hours support may be required around major system releases, go-lives, or cutovers.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available. The position requires permanent U.S. work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience building and supporting production system integrations and data pipelines; 7 or more years is desirable.
  • Hands-on SAP integration experience with ECC and/or S/4HANA, including IDoc, BAPI/RFC, OData, and middleware such as SAP Integration Suite, CPI, or PI/PO.
  • Experience integrating advanced planning and scheduling platforms such as PlanetTogether, Maestro, or comparable products, as well as MES, laboratory information management, warehouse, or workforce management systems.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms and modern data engineering tools such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, or equivalents.
  • Experience with data modeling and warehouse or data lake design for analytical and operational consumption.
  • Software engineering practices applied to data work, including version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience in a regulated GxP environment, including computer system validation, change control, and data integrity expectations.
  • Supply chain or manufacturing domain knowledge, particularly planning, scheduling, or materials management processes.
  • Exposure to optimization, advanced analytics, or machine learning workloads as a consumer of data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy interfaces between planning and scheduling tools—including PlanetTogether and Maestro—and MES, SAP, laboratory, warehouse, labor, and data platform systems.
  • Build integrations for data flowing into planning tools and for plans flowing back to systems used for execution.
  • Write production-grade code and pipelines using SQL, stored procedures, Python, APIs, messaging, event interfaces, and scheduled or orchestrated processing.
  • Own integrations in production, including monitoring, alerting, error handling, retries, reconciliation, and data quality checks.
  • Assess integration choices such as batch versus event-driven, API versus file, middleware versus point-to-point, and real-time versus scheduled; recommend patterns based on business needs, data volumes, and systems.
  • Work with process and system owners to understand data meanings, freshness requirements, and downstream effects of inaccurate or missing information.
  • Define, document, and maintain integration standards, patterns, and reusable components.
  • Design and implement data models, mappings, and master data maintenance processes that support accurate planning and scheduling data throughout a product’s lifecycle.
  • Make data available to operations research and applied intelligence colleagues at the required granularity, latency, and reliability.
  • Identify source-system gaps and work with system owners to remediate them.
  • Set integration standards and engineering practices, and review designs and code to ensure delivered work meets them.
  • Shape and sequence the integration roadmap with process and system owners, estimate work, and make dependencies and delivery risks visible.
  • Provide technical direction to external vendors and implementation partners, and share practices with colleagues to improve team capability.
  • Partner with Digital on architecture, environments, security, validation, and release management, and ensure compliance with GxP documentation and change-control expectations.
  • Translate operational needs into integration requirements and communicate technical constraints and options to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve integration and data engineering capability and evaluate tooling and approaches that could improve reliability, delivery speed, or cost.
