About The Position

Provide strategic coordination and operational leadership across assigned facilities to ensure efficient workflow execution and alignment with institutional performance standards. Oversee and conduct facility inspections to identify custodial deficiencies, prioritize corrective actions, and maintain a safe, functional, and compliant environment. Manage the implementation of training programs focused on proficient operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures for custodial equipment and mechanical tools. Manage vendor and contractor performance for outsourced facility services including pest control, waste management, recycling, and snow removal ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and service-level expectations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Develop and implement safety protocols and operating procedures to mitigate workplace risks and support a secure operational environment for personnel and facility occupants.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher is required
  • Five (5) years of custodial services, sanitation, maintenance, or directly related experience is required
  • Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience in janitorial, custodial, or environmental services is required
  • Certification in OSHA Biohazard Safety Training is required
  • Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance is required
  • Knowledge of all aspects of cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures, inventory systems and programs, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to act professionally and impartially to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require various types of physical exertion, including walking, standing considerable lengths of time, lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving moderate to heavy weight.
  • Ability to perform escalated or more highly complex work similar to the work done by staff being supervised.
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks to staff and collaborate with leadership to achieve organizational or department success.
  • Ability to align team's tasks with departmental procedures and objectives and serve as a reliable resource for other employees in an area of expertise.
  • Ability to travel to various work locations throughout Cook County.
  • Ability to remain on-call 24/7, including holidays and weekends.
  • Successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
