About The Position

The Division of University Advancement (DUA) at the University of Toronto is focused on sustaining and enhancing the University's academic mission by engaging alumni and private sector constituents. DUA is undergoing a transformative agenda focused on growing fundraising, enhancing alumni engagement, building advancement talent, and fostering diversity and inclusiveness. The Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) team within University Development is responsible for philanthropic relationships with corporations and foundations, developing strategic partnerships that advance institutional fundraising priorities across teaching, research, and global impact. The CFR team collaborates with academic leaders and advancement colleagues to secure major philanthropic investments and build long-term institutional partnerships.

Requirements

  • University degree with a specialization in business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in advancement (fundraising), with responsibility for development and sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills, and the proven ability to synthesize and accurately present relevant information to senior leadership, donors or corporate partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet demanding deadlines within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • A strong results orientation, with a track record of solving problems creatively.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a front-line fundraiser with a select portfolio of prospects ($50,000+).
  • Participate in the overall formulation of the Corporate and Foundation Relations fundraising strategy.
  • Act as a liaison with university divisions for this segment of the advancement portfolio to ensure follow-up on gifts or proposals and disseminate prospect and process information.
  • Manage U of T’s sponsorship program, assisting divisions and sponsors with inquiries about the program and eligibility, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of sponsorships.
  • Support donor relations by developing and implementing donor engagement plans, activities, and events.
  • Draft donor acknowledgement and recognition communications.
  • Write briefing notes, solicitation plans, and call reports to track donor interactions.
  • Conduct research on prospects, including corporations and foundations.
  • Prepare a variety of reports including contact and giving history and prospect assignment status using the constituency information database.
  • Ensure the timely entry of relevant data into the database and other appropriate administrative systems.
  • Maintain a high level of competency with the ARBOR CRM system and other data information systems.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations and direct administrative support to the Executive Director.
  • Develop a comprehensive system of organization, filing, and processes to track corporate and university-wide development relationships.
  • Ensure follow-up communication on behalf of the Executive Director with high-level donors and partners.
  • Act as a front-line representative in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Assess needs and contribute to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend steps to bring prospects closer to making a major financial commitment.
  • Write project-specific proposals related to fundraising campaigns.
  • Cultivate and solicit current and prospective major gift donors through tailored stewardship programs.
  • Manage donor relations.
  • Meet face-to-face with current and potential donors to discuss giving interests and opportunities.
  • Produce complex donor reports.
