About The Position

This position will be the primary manager of core laboratory functions throughout the departmental shifts, inclusive of Processing, Phlebotomy, Chemistry, Microbiology, Urinalysis, Hematology, Coagulation, and Blood Bank. The position will assure technical quality and conformance with regulatory authorities. The position will promote Service Excellence, Employee satisfaction, process improvement activities and function as the primary back up for the Laboratory Administrative Director.

Requirements

  • Current New York State license as a Certified Laboratory Technologist.
  • Experienced Medical Technologist with a minimum of 6 years experience in the laboratory.
  • Experience must include escalating levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to manage staff in the achievement of department goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology is preferred.
  • A bachelors degree in the physical sciences may be considered if paired with relevant experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Advanced management degrees or courses are highly preferred.
  • Advanced degrees in Management preferred.
  • Certification by ASCP Board of Registry or Board eligible is preferred.
  • Experience in Core Lab operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in both short and long range Core Laboratory plans that are consistent the mission, vision, strategic and business plans.
  • Plans, coordinates and takes the lead in integrating Core Lab functions throughout all shifts, including scheduling, monitoring, data collection, data presentation and the implementation of approved new initiatives.
  • Assists in maintaining departmental operations within the budgetary goals.
  • Coordinates and allocates Core Lab activities to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Plans, conducts, prepares for, and attends and participates in departmental and administrative meetings as required.
  • Assures all policy, procedure, record keeping, quality control, quality assurance, testing, quality control and quality assurance documentation required are maintained and up to date.
  • Assists in quality assurance and maintenance of all hospital and laboratory safety regulations, including the coordination of updating and communicating this information with the department.
  • Schedule personnel, develops staffing plans and departmental assignments/ re-assignments under overall guidance of Administrative Director.
  • Performs performance evaluations and participates in/or conducts disciplinary sessions as needed and maintains the documentation.
  • Conducts employee interviews, orientation, competencies, and educational sessions as needed and maintains the documentation.
  • Conducts departmental quality auditing and compiles required quality reports.
  • Works closely with Administrative and Medical Director.
  • Maintains comprehensive communication with both directors.
  • Functions as back up to the Laboratory Administrative Director.
