Day - 08 Hour (United States of America) This is a Stanford Health Care job. Build environments that directly impact patient care and community health. As a Construction Manager supporting Stanford Health Care’s Tri-Valley portfolio, you will help deliver complex healthcare projects that clinicians depend on every day. This is a hands-on, onsite role based in Pleasanton, CA (not a people manager position). You will lead the day-to-day execution of multiple projects within active, highly regulated healthcare environments, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and on budget while maintaining operational continuity. You’ll serve as a key connector across internal teams, designers, contractors, and clinical stakeholders—translating plans into execution and proactively resolving issues in the field. The Manager of Construction at Stanford Health Care supports the execution of assigned capital construction projects under the direction of senior construction leadership. The role contributes to successful project delivery by applying construction knowledge related to cost, schedule, constructability, and field coordination throughout the construction phase. The Manager of Construction provides day‑to‑day oversight of assigned construction activities, directly manages Construction Managers and Project Engineers, and coordinates with Facilities Services departments, contractors, consultants, and vendors. The role requires daily on‑site presence to monitor construction progress, support regulatory and compliance activities, and ensure that projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within the approved scope and budget. The on-site responsibilities include oversight of personnel, construction operations, and contracted vendors. Position may involve projects in various locations across the Stanford Health Care footprint and weekend/holiday work depending on construction schedule. Locations Stanford Health Care

Requirements

  • 5+ years of construction/project management experience, ideally in healthcare or other regulated environments
  • Experience working in or around OSHPD/HCAI projects strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of PMWeb, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, MS Powerpoint and MS Office
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholder groups
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a strong focus on safety and execution
  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
  • Relevant experience in lieu of degree may be considered and is in addition to the experience requirements for this position.
  • Ability to budget, make financial projections and write reports
  • Ability to ensure project compliance with hospital infection control procedures
  • Ability to develop conceptual construction cost estimates with assistance from Facilities Services, Business Operations & Strategic Initiatives (BOSI)
  • Ability to review General Contractor cost proposals and schedules. Provide feedback to the General Contractors.
  • Ability to negotiate Contracts, Change Orders and Claims with assistance from the Construction Director.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare construction means/methods, HCAI compliance, infection prevention, and safety in occupied facilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation

  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and shifting priorities, adjusting plans and resources without loss of progress
  • Skill in delivering influential communications with executive presence, including presenting complex issues to senior leaders and committees

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day construction execution across multiple projects from planning through closeout
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, schedules, budgets, and site logistics
  • Drive coordination of safety programs including ICRA, PCRA, and ILSM in partnership with Environmental Health & Safety
  • Identify and resolve field issues quickly to maintain schedule and minimize operational disruption
  • Track and communicate project performance using tools such as PMWeb, Bluebeam, and PlanGrid
  • Provide clear, concise updates to leadership on scope, schedule, risks, and budget
  • Engaged in the Planning and Design Phase of projects as a Construction Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the design, schedule, review and update. of cost estimates and review of documents for constructability.
  • Ensure completion of construction within budget, on schedule, and meets all program objectives and appropriate government regulations.
  • Plan and direct daily field operations (site logistics, phasing, temporary works, infection control barriers) to minimize disruption to patient care; resolve escalations from Construction Managers.
  • Ensure construction compliance with HCAI requirements, permit conditions, and inspector expectations; prepare for and support inspections and audits.
  • Oversee field QA/QC (quality assurance/quality control), mock‑ups, first‑of‑kind reviews, commissioning/activation readiness, and turnover documentation to ensure construction project compliance with department, hospital, and university policies, government codes and regulations; also ensures conformance to the requirements of all project participants.
  • Champion construction industry innovations (artificial intelligence, mobile QA/QC apps, Building Information Modeling (BIM) for field use, etc) and lean improvement methods.
  • Manage communications with users, consultants, contractors, vendors, and jurisdictional agencies on a regular and timely basis, ensuring that all project participants are informed of project status, problems, and required actions.
  • Manage the selection process and contract negotiations for contractors, and construction related vendors.
  • Manages, assesses, and documents construction scope, describing the objectives, physical requirements, parameters, and constraints of the project, including not only the user's functional needs but also hospital and external jurisdictional criteria for health and safety, operation, maintenance, energy efficiency, quality standards, contextual issues, and aesthetics.
  • Prepare and maintains accurate, coherent, timely, and auditable project records/files, and cost estimates with department procedures.
  • Manage near‑term schedules and look‑aheads; identify variances and implement recovery plans; coordinate outages/shutdowns with Facilities and Clinical partners.
  • Lead weekly construction meetings; drive decisions, actions, and timely follow‑through on RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, shop drawings, change orders, punch lists.
  • Coach and develop Construction Managers and Project Engineers; set team objectives, review work product, and reinforce service standards.
  • This position may require on-call availability during non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs and respond to emergencies as necessary.
