About The Position

The Manager, Competitive & Market Intelligence (U.S.) ensures PMI U.S. leadership and cross-functional teams have a clear, forward-looking view of the U.S. nicotine landscape, grounded in robust market, consumer, and competitive insights. The role delivers timely, decision-relevant analysis that informs category and brand strategy, portfolio and innovation roadmaps, and broader commercial and investment priorities. Acting as a strategic integrator, this role connects multiple insight “engines” into a coherent, actionable decision support system for the U.S. business.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in strategic consulting, or 7+ years in corporate strategy, strategic planning, insights, or analytics roles
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. CPG landscape across marketing, sales, and retail; tobacco or reduced-risk category experience preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Solid experience in competitive and market analysis, including benchmarking and trend analysis
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data sources into clear, actionable insights
  • Experience in competitive assessment and structured market monitoring
  • Ability to identify emerging trends and early signals and translate them into business implications
  • Familiarity with scenario thinking to frame potential market and competitive developments
  • Good understanding of consumer behavior, category dynamics, and the U.S. retail landscape
  • Ability to connect consumer, market, and competitive insights into coherent narratives
  • Ability to translate insights into clear strategic implications and recommendations
  • Experience supporting portfolio, innovation, and commercial decision-making processes
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally to inform (not own) key decisions
  • Experience with market and POS data (MSAi, Nielsen, Circana etc.)
  • Solid analytical and modeling skills to support decision-making
  • Familiarity with dashboards, reporting tools, and structured insight delivery focused on key retail and consumer data KPIs
  • Curious and insight-driven; proactively challenges assumptions constructively
  • Ownership-oriented and proactive, with a strong learning mindset
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and forming structured perspectives from incomplete data

Responsibilities

  • Support the evolution of the U.S. Competitive Intelligence operating model, including governance, workflows, and stakeholder engagement, in alignment with the global strategy team.
  • Contribute to the scoping and implementation of CI tools and OnDemand platforms to enable scalable, repeatable insight delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement of CI capabilities, with a focus on structured market monitoring, early signal detection, and scenario-based thinking.
  • Partner closely with Market Intelligence to support the development and refinement of a 5-year U.S. nicotine pool outlook across combustibles, smokeless, and smoke-free categories.
  • Assess and synthesize market intelligence, including: Category, segment, and consumer trends; Regulatory and structural market developments.
  • Integrate multiple data sources into clear, concise insights and implications for strategy, portfolio choices, and execution priorities.
  • Conduct competitive assessments covering: Broad pricing and promotional dynamics (in partnership with RGM), focusing on observable trends and competitor positioning; Competitive positioning, growth trajectories, and high-level performance benchmarking across competitors, categories, and channels.
  • Apply scenario-based thinking to highlight potential competitive developments and implications for key strategic decisions.
  • Track and evaluate competitor product launches, formats, flavors, technologies, and commercialization approaches.
  • Assess innovation trajectories and indicative economics (e.g., positioning, scalability signals, margin trade-offs at a directional level).
  • Identify potential business impact and disruption risks from emerging innovations and portfolio moves.
  • Monitor and analyze in-store execution, activation mechanics, and competitive trade presence across channels.
  • Provide insights on commercial effectiveness and visibility approaches, including how competitors activate in retail.
  • Support go-to-market decision making through timely, execution-relevant intelligence and read-across insights.
