About The Position

The Manager, Community Engagement, plays an important role in advancing the mission and vision of Special Olympics Florida by creating and sustaining strong relationships with our athletes, volunteers and partners. This role focuses on athlete leadership initiatives, volunteer recruitment and management, regional marketing efforts, and support of annual campaigns and peer‑to‑peer fundraising events—all of which enhance Special Olympics Florida’s programs.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent professional experience in marketing, communications, volunteer management, or related field
  • Understand and embrace the mission and philosophy of Special Olympics Florida
  • Sports knowledge desired
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities at a time
  • Experience in recruiting, motivating, supervising and delegating tasks to volunteers
  • Experience in working successfully with community partners
  • Experience supporting fundraising or peer‑to‑peer campaigns
  • Ability to work successfully with people with intellectual disabilities and their families
  • Ability to both take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Smartsheet, Canva and Constant Contact
  • Regular attendance required
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and support individual and corporate volunteer groups to meet regional program needs
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive volunteer and Athlete Leadership computer database
  • Using measurable objectives, update the volunteer management plan annually to reflect the evolving needs of the program
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure the effective and efficient management of volunteers
  • Support Sr. Manager of Athlete Leadership & Community Engagement and Regional Director in creating volunteer and Athlete Leader annual engagement and/or appreciation plan, establishing benchmarks for program development and evaluation
  • Promote and manage Athlete Leadership opportunities in assigned Area. Identify and recruit athletes appropriate for Athlete Leadership
  • Spearhead athlete coordination and engagement for event participation.
  • Support sports, non-competitive staff, and Athlete Leadership to expand programming in assigned Area to include marketing plan to recruit athletes, coaches, Unified partners, and volunteers
  • Create a bi-monthly newsletter and social media content for Region
  • Support Special Olympics Florida annual campaigns and peer-to-peer events in assigned Area including but not limited to: TD Bank, Publix Torch Campaign, Polar Plunge, Race for Champions, Jersey Mikes Campaign, Top Golf, and Law Enforcement Torch Run
  • Assist in the coordination of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events or fundraising initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with Special Olympics Florida staff on Exhibition, Invitational, Regional, and State Games
  • Maintain current knowledge of Special Olympics Florida policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
