About The Position

This is a newly created role at AMLB, a progressive virtual Chief Financial Officer (CFO) business focused on enabling clients and team members to reach their potential. AMLB is experiencing rapid growth and works with innovative clients across various industries. The Manager, Cloud Finance Services will be a pillar of leadership, aiming to redefine financial management and accounting services for high-growth clients. This role involves leading, coaching, and inspiring a team of cloud finance professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture, and ensuring high-quality, timely cloud finance services. Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a multi-client accounting environment, ideally within a cloud accounting business or virtual CFO practice.
  • Direct experience managing bookkeeping and accounting teams who support multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Comfort leading diverse portfolios of early-stage or high-growth organizations across various sectors.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor remote teams of accounting professionals, including hiring, onboarding, performance coaching, and delivering technical and soft-skills training.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client relationships concurrently, focusing on communication quality, deliverable oversight, and service consistency.
  • Able to spot client dissatisfaction or scope creep early and flag for escalation.
  • Comfort representing the business at a senior level in client interactions, including ad-hoc advisory engagements.
  • Strong familiarity with cloud-based accounting tools and platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext, WagePoint).
  • Comfortable working in a remote, tech-enabled environment, with an ability to adapt processes using digital tools.
  • Curious and future-forward, with a desire to explore how tools like ChatGPT can enhance service delivery, internal workflows, and client outcomes.
  • Eager to engage in continuous learning and support AMLB’s commitment to embedding AI thoughtfully into operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial and operational concepts.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, discretion, and a high level of professionalism.
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and resilient—comfortable operating autonomously while also contributing to a highly collaborative leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a growing remote team of up to 7 finance professionals (Bookkeeping Specialists and Cloud Accountants), managing the full people lifecycle including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Deliver ongoing technical and non-technical training to improve team's service quality and communication.
  • Contribute to broader business culture and strategy as a leadership team member, cultivating a collaborative, high-performance environment.
  • Manage a portfolio of growth-oriented clients across Canada, ensuring timely, accurate deliverables aligned with client expectations.
  • Monitor client communication for quality and risk, and provide ad-hoc advisory.
  • Review year-end trial balances, working papers, and financial statements before handing off to the tax team.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Lead to resolve client payroll-related issues.
  • Flag potential scope and billing changes proactively to Co-Founders.
  • Collaborate with AMLB’s Technology & Operations Specialist to enhance internal client service processes.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and improve workflow systems.
  • Support the business QA program.
  • Ensure team follows standardized, high-quality practices.
  • Utilize AI to improve the quality and efficiency of client service delivery.
  • Work directly with the Director to shape business-wide decisions on operations, hiring strategy, and culture.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and resourcing decisions.
  • Explore and implement AI-driven solutions, such as using ChatGPT Plus, to improve client service delivery and internal efficiency.
  • Manage a remote team of finance professionals (up to 7 Bookkeeping Specialists and Cloud Accountants), including participating in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Ensure successful client service delivery for a growing portfolio of growth-oriented clients in a wide range of industries across Canada, ensuring timely and high-quality execution of recurring deliverables such as monthly/quarterly management reports, sales invoicing, vendor payments, payroll coordination, and HST filings.
  • Review year-end trial balances, supporting working papers and financial statements before handing it off to AMLB's Tax team, who finalize financial statements and prepare corporate and personal tax returns.
  • Monitor and elevate the quality and timeliness of client communication, identify potential gaps, and coach team members on service excellence.
  • Proactively flag any indications of scope expansion to the Director for pricing review.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory and technical accounting standard changes, such as CSRS 4200 and CSQM, and update AMLB's client service standards and processes to address any changes, as well as proactively monitor compliance with these standards.
  • Resolve payroll-related issues by liaising with AMLB’s dedicated Payroll Lead and clients as needed.
  • Support and participate in client advisory work, including leading ad hoc financial projects, particularly when operational or financial challenges arise for clients that are outside the current service scope.
  • Partner with AMLB’s Tech & Operations Specialist to identify, recommend, and help implement process improvements in client service workflows, internal documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Champion AI adoption within the team, with access to tools like ChatGPT Plus and support for ongoing AI learning.
  • Deliver training and mentoring to your team on both technical and non-technical topics to enhance performance, drive consistency, and encourage continuous learning.
