GESI is expanding and seeking a Manager, Capital Planning in Vaughan, Ontario. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, capital planning, corporate finance, or related areas.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning frameworks.
  • Advanced proficiency in modeling; experience with Workday (particularly the Capital Module) is a strong asset.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS accounting principles related to capital assets, depreciation, and capitalization rules.
  • Understanding of capital cash flow management, payment terms, and vendor financing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with senior stakeholders, and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to connect insights to broader strategy.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, especially in explaining financial concepts to non-finance audiences.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

  • Own the capital budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy, alignment, and strategic prioritization across the organization.
  • Lead the development of the multi-year capital investment plan, integrating operational requirements with financial objectives.
  • Oversee governance of capital requests, approvals, reporting, and the end-to-end capital lifecycle.
  • Enhance current reporting outputs to better serve various management groups across the organization.
  • Support the enforcement of compliance with the approved process. Including identifying data quality issues and assisting in resolving missing data
  • Track capital program performance against approved budgets, timelines, and scope
  • Monitor capital spend, commitments, and forecast variances
  • Support capital program reforecasting and reprioritization as business needs evolve
  • Partner with Finance to support capital budgeting, funding approvals, and financial reporting
  • Conduct return on investment (ROI/ROIC), lifecycle cost, and risk assessments
  • Partner closely with Operations leadership to understand business drivers, validate capital requirements, and challenge assumptions when necessary.
  • Provide financial insights that help evaluate the necessity, timing, and ROI of proposed capital projects.
  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions to align capital investment with operational performance expectations.
  • Develop, track, and report capital-related KPIs, including asset utilization, ROIC, spend efficiency, and project performance metrics.
  • Produce monthly capital reporting packages, including actuals, forecasts, risks/opportunities, and executive commentary.
  • Support the Capital Committee with analysis, financial models, and business cases.
  • Ensure capital cash flow forecasting incorporates accurate timing of expenditures, payment terms, and vendor conditions.
  • Partner with Accounting to support capitalization policies, month-end processes, and reconciliation of cash vs. accrual capital spend.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance capital planning processes, systems, and reporting standards.
