About The Position

The primary purpose of the Manager, Business Services position is to provide comprehensive operational and financial support to inpatient nursing units and related nursing departments. This role is accountable for overseeing all business activities that directly impact unit performance, including fiscal management, budget planning and administration, human resources coordination, and the integration of business operation systems essential to delivering high-quality patient care. The Manager serves as a strategic partner to nursing leadership, ensuring that financial and operational processes align with the clinical priorities of inpatient units. Responsibilities include managing labor and position control, supporting staffing models, monitoring productivity, and ensuring efficient use of resources in a dynamic, patient-centered environment. This role collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and non-clinical partners to support seamless operations across the continuum of care. The Manager, Business Services plays a critical role in fostering an environment that is responsive to patient needs by aligning business functions with clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and quality outcomes. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and analytical professional with proven expertise in budget activities and financial management within a complex healthcare or academic environment. They will demonstrate strong analytical thinking skills to prepare, justify, and administer operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with institutional guidelines and divisional strategic plans. This individual will excel at monitoring monthly financial performance, interpreting key metrics, and providing actionable insights to optimize resource allocation. Overall, this candidate will combine financial acumen, operational insight, and collaborative leadership to support the success and sustainability of the units and departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Healthcare or related field.
  • 5 years Professional health care or business management experience, to include three years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
  • The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with unit leadership, prepares, justifies, and administers operating and capital budgets for units/departments and their programmatic areas, in alignment with institutional guidelines and divisional strategic plans.
  • Partners with leadership to monitor monthly financial performance, applying strong analytical thinking to evaluate key metrics, position control, expense categories, and expense justification reviews.
  • Ensures appropriate allocation of expenses, funds, and positions.
  • Trains and educates departmental staff on understanding, interpreting, and utilizing financial information.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates closely with departmental and unit leadership to support procurement processes, enhance revenue and charge capture, reconcile accounts, monitor ProCard usage, perform ad hoc reporting and analysis, and assist with assigned Human Resources duties (e.g., merit processes).
  • Develops strategic business plans in partnership with unit/department leadership, including both short-term and long-term financial goals.
  • Serves as the primary contact and liaison for units/departments on matters related to scheduling, productivity, position reviews, and operational issues.
  • Audits and monitors use of the Kronos scheduling system across operating units.
  • Demonstrates innovative thinking and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on operational initiatives and special projects, such as unit move coordination.
  • Partners with project leadership to implement and integrate quality initiatives and performance improvement efforts.
  • Interfaces with the information systems support team to coordinate and manage hardware and software needs for assigned units/departments.
  • Develops strategies leveraging information systems to enhance unit/department effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with project leadership to implement and integrate new Information Systems initiatives and technologies that support process improvement.
