About The Position

The Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of cutting-edge data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements. Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to come up with the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations. This role is Remote in the U.S. Vantage is looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented, hands-on Manager of Operational Technology (OT) to oversee the implementation, coordination, and ongoing support of OT systems across our data center portfolio. This role is responsible for supporting the reliability, security, and scalability of OT infrastructure, including Building Management Systems (BMS), Power Monitoring Systems (PMS), industrial control networks, and automation platforms that support mission-critical data center operations. This manager will partner closely with Engineering, IT, Cyber Security, and Operations teams to support standardization, maintain compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements, and help scale OT capabilities to support rapid growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred, but not required
  • 3-5 years of experience in OT/ICS, automation, or controls 5 to 7 years preferred
  • Data Center experience is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Proven experience in data centers, critical facilities, utilities, or large-scale industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of BMS, PMS, SCADA, PLCs, and industrial networking protocols.
  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, IEC 62443).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support scaling OT systems in a fast-growth, mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of the OT strategy and roadmap to advance data center growth, reliability, and security.
  • Manage the design coordination, deployment support, and operations of OT systems, including BMS, PMS, SCADA, and PLC-based controls.
  • Help standardize OT platforms, processes, and governance across data center sites.
  • Oversee day-to-day monitoring, alarming, and incident response for OT environments.
  • Implement and manage change control processes for OT-related updates and upgrades.
  • Coordinate root cause analysis and corrective actions for OT system incidents and failures.
  • Coordinate vendor relationships, service delivery, and performance for OT platforms and integration partners.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to OT engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Set team priorities, assign work, and ensure OT support activities are completed safely, consistently, and on schedule.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance input for direct reports and matrixed team members.
  • Ensure OT systems meet compliance, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and acceptance of OT systems in new builds and retrofit projects.
  • Evaluate and support deployment of emerging technologies (AI/ML, IoT, digital twins) to enhance automation and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and IT teams to align OT initiatives with business objectives.
  • Track and report OT system performance, KPIs, and uptime to leadership.
  • Manage escalations from site teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to drive timely resolution of OT-related issues.
  • Support continuous improvement in reliability, scalability, and sustainability of OT infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with members of the Design, Engineering, Automation Systems, and Construction team during prototype development, as well as members of the Automation Operations, Information Technology and Site Operations team for sustaining existing automation architecture.
  • Lead daily operations of OT systems to ensure reliability, uptime, and secure performance.
  • Manage and coordinate OT team activities, including engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs and best practices for OT systems management.
  • Coordinate with IT and Cybersecurity to secure OT networks, patch vulnerabilities, and maintain compliance with standards.
  • Manage OT-related projects, including system upgrades, retrofits, and new data center builds.
  • Review OT system designs, integrations, and commissioning documentation and escalate approvals as needed.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of OT incidents and implement corrective/preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate OT documentation, including system drawings, network diagrams, and change logs.
  • Monitor and report OT system KPIs, alarms, and performance metrics to leadership.
  • Support vendor relationships, budget tracking, and service agreements for OT platforms and services.
  • Identify, evaluate, and deploy new technologies to improve automation, monitoring, and sustainability.
  • Train and mentor staff on OT systems, cybersecurity practices, and operational procedures.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, team check-ins, and workload reviews to maintain alignment and remove execution roadblocks.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training plans, and skill development for OT team members as the organization scales.
  • Coordinate schedules, staffing needs, and site support coverage for projects, commissioning activities, and operational support.
  • Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and customer reporting related to OT systems.
  • Support consistent execution of OT governance across multiple data center sites.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives with Operations, Engineering, and IT to align OT with business needs.
