About The Position

Collaborative for Children is seeking a Non-Profit Accounting Manager to provide management oversight of accounting, including budget tracking, analysis, and reporting on agency program operations. This role ensures appropriate processes and procedures are effective and responsive to support program implementation. The Manager will collaborate across the organization to educate staff on finance and accounting procedures and explore how the finance function can more effectively support program operations and general administration. The position directly manages payroll, accounts payable/receivables, procurement, and general ledger functions, and collaborates regularly with the CFO, President and CEO, and senior leadership to enhance and integrate effective accounting practices. The organization's mission is to create an ecosystem of high-quality child care in communities that need it most, aiming to strengthen Houston's future labor force by helping young children enter kindergarten curious, confident, and ready to learn.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Experience in non-profit financial management and fund accounting required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards
  • Proficiency in clearly communicating information about finance and accounting issues to non-accountants and individuals with varying levels of financial expertise
  • Strong quantitative analysis capabilities, with the ability to read, analyze, interpret and explain complex financial data
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated & confident
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Schedule and personal transportation flexibility to travel to staff and organization meetings in Houston
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated experience with email/communications/scheduling software (Outlook)
  • Primarily remote, however requires Houston-based residence to participate in staff, leadership, and organizational meetings
  • Must be able to work a 40 hour, Monday – Friday schedule
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate occasional weekday evening hours and weekend hours as department or organization events necessitate
  • Must have reliable, personal transportation
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License, and current vehicle insurance coverage

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred
  • Significant experience with allocations of shared costs preferred
  • Non-Profit accounting software experience (Sage Intacct) preferred, but not required
  • Experience with AI platforms (e.g., CoPilot, ChatGPT) beneficial
  • Prior experience with video platforms (e.g., TEAMS, Zoom) and tablets helpful

Responsibilities

  • Provide management oversight for all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Payroll, Grant Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Monitor internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards (FASB, IRS regulations) and Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards.
  • Serve as financial lead to coordinate and provide financial related materials for audit activity.
  • Oversee financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; provide financial reporting for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Manage program cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program senior leadership and CFO; continuously collaborate with program management to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellent customer service.
  • Maintain & modify expenditure tracking tools to help program managers expend funds in compliance with program requirements and accurately report grant expenditures.
  • Manage the procurement process for contract expenditures to comply with program spending authorizations and the Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards.
  • Provide analytical support and training to program managers to increase their financial acumen and budget management knowledge.

  • Compensation: This is an Exempt, Salaried, Full-Time position. Pay range, based on experience, is $72k - $82k annualized. Paid bi-weekly on Fridays.
