About The Position

Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. Requirements

  • Graduate of an American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) Program
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current registration and licensure by the ARRT
  • Current registration and licensure in Mammography by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS(M))
  • Registration and licensure in Mammography through ARRT required or within 6 months post educational cross training within organization
  • Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
  • Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.

Nice To Haves

  • Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience as mammography technologist performing digital mammography

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
  • Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
  • Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
  • Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
  • Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
  • Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
  • The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
  • The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
  • The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
