About The Position

Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country. The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions. The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials. The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) Program
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current registration and licensure by the ARRT
  • Current registration and licensure in Mammography by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS(M))
  • Registration and licensure in Mammography through ARRT required or within 6 months post educational cross training within organization
  • Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
  • Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.

Nice To Haves

  • Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience as mammography technologist performing digital mammography

Responsibilities

  • Administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
  • Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested.
  • Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
  • Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
  • Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
  • Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
