About The Position

The Mammography Technical Assistant provides support to the Mammography team by assisting with patient preparation, workflow coordination, image management, clerical duties, equipment readiness, and patient care activities. This role enhances operational efficiency while ensuring an exceptional patient experience and maintaining compliance with departmental policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including EMR and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility needs within established safety guidelines.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with office and clinical support functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in healthcare, business, or related field preferred.
  • Previous healthcare, radiology, women's health, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience working in an electronic medical record and/or PACS environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients through the mammography process.
  • Assist patients with check-in, questionnaires, and required documentation (calling beforehand to verify information and confirm appointment).
  • Prepare examination rooms between patients.
  • Provide patient education regarding exam preparation and expectations.
  • Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and privacy throughout the visit.
  • Assist patients with mobility challenges as needed.
  • Support mammography technologists in maintaining patient flow.
  • Verify patient demographics and examination orders.
  • Monitor daily schedules and assist with appointment coordination.
  • Communicate delays and workflow updates to patients and staff.
  • Coordinate prior imaging retrieval and transfer requests.
  • Import and reconcile outside imaging studies.
  • Assist with image tracking and exam reconciliation.
  • Verify that required documentation is available in the electronic medical record.
  • Support radiologists and technologists with administrative imaging tasks.
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness and readiness.
  • Stock supplies and monitor inventory levels.
  • Report equipment issues and assist with routine quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver exceptional service to patients, providers, and team members.
  • Answer telephones and respond to routine inquiries.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, technologists, radiologists, and scheduling staff.
  • Promote a welcoming and compassionate environment.
