About The Position

The University of Wyoming's Coe Student Innovation Center (CSIC) is seeking enthusiastic, creative student innovators to help run its makerspace lab and support day-to-day operations. This part-time position involves demonstrating creative problem-solving, quickly learning and utilizing non-traditional tools, and maintaining a positive and flexible attitude. The role requires an interest in or experience with makerspace hardware, software, and fabrication. Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining CSIC hardware and software, formulating and implementing policies for equipment maintenance, and interacting positively with a diverse range of users including K-12 students, UW students, faculty, staff, and the Laramie community. The Makerspace Aide will serve as a CSIC ambassador, answering questions, assisting users with 3D designs, providing troubleshooting, and promoting CSIC resources. There is also an opportunity to provide small group instruction, orientations, workshops, and tutorials, which may involve creating teaching materials and online resources. Strong verbal, writing, and presentation skills are essential, with experience in media communication being a plus. The position also requires attending staff meetings and training sessions to achieve CSIC objectives and enhance professional growth. The Makerspace Aide will be responsible for makerspace upkeep, programming, visitor engagement, and fabrication of various projects, focusing on STEAM education, outreach, and active participation as a "Maker". The role requires working smoothly and effectively with other UW departments to meet CSIC expectations and goals.

Requirements

High School Education or higher.
Enthusiasm for emergent technology, tinkering, discovery, creative design, and a mind for DIY projects.
Ability to quickly learn tasks that require extensive eye hand coordination and tool use with or without reasonable accommodation.
Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

Nice To Haves

Experience in 3D printing, modeling, scanning, robotics, electronics, coding, STEAM lesson plan development, or academic outreach.
Graphic (Photoshop, Illustrator) and digital design software experience.
Interest or experience in media communication such as website, social platforms, blogs.
Experience with makerspace hardware, software, and fabrication.
Demonstrated ability to provide small group instruction, orientation, workshops, and tutorials.
Experience with or interest in STEAM education, outreach, or emergent technologies.

Responsibilities

Monitor and maintain the CSIC hardware and software for optimal performance, including learning about the technology, performing troubleshooting, and working with the Makerspace Coordinator to resolve issues.
Formulate and implement policies and procedures for maintaining CSIC equipment including but not limited to: 3D printers, various electronics, computers, tools, and assorted hardware.
Interact, assist, and engage effectively and positively with a diverse population of K-12 Aides, UW students, faculty, staff, and members of the Laramie community.
Serve as an effective CSIC ambassador, answering questions, assisting visitors and users with constructing 3D designs, providing troubleshooting, and promoting CSIC resources.
Provide small group instruction, orientation, workshops, and tutorials, which may include creating and developing teaching materials, handouts, and online resources.
Attend staff meetings and/or training sessions to achieve CSIC objectives, encourage teamwork, strengthen and promote communication, and enhance professional growth.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Responsible for makerspace upkeep, programming, visitor engagement, and fabrication of various projects for the CSIC.
Focus on a range of experiences centered in STEAM education, outreach, as well as being a regular, active “Maker”.
Work smoothly and effectively with other departments across UW, while striving to meet CSIC expectations and goals.
