About The Position

The Coe Student Innovation Center (CSIC) is seeking enthusiastic, creative student innovators to help run our makerspace lab and support day-to-day CSIC operations. This part-time position is expected to be well-versed in 3D printing equipment, modeling software, electronic teaching kits, circuitry, and robotics after training. The role involves participating in the deployment of policies and procedures for Makerspace access and usage, departmental programs, and safety procedures. Makerspace Aides are expected to maintain and repair makerspace equipment. Under the direction of the Makerspace Coordinator, the Makerspace Aide may provide instructional assistance to faculty, students, and community members. In the absence of the Makerspace Coordinator, Aides will be responsible for afternoon and evening operation of the lab. Training will be provided, but experience in areas such as 3D printing, modeling, scanning, robotics, electronics, coding, STEAM lesson plan development, or academic outreach is ideal. The position requires a highly motivated, energetic candidate with attention to detail.

Requirements

High School Education or higher.
Enthusiasm for emergent technology, tinkering, discovery, creative design, and a mind for DIY projects.
Ability to quickly learn tasks that require extensive eye hand coordination and tool use with or without reasonable accommodation.
Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

Nice To Haves

Experience in at least one of the following areas: 3D printing, modeling, scanning, robotics, electronics, coding, STEAM lesson plan development, or academic outreach.
Experience with makerspace hardware, software, and fabrication.
Graphic (Photoshop, Illustrator) and digital design software experience.
Interest or experience in media communication such as website, social platforms, blogs.
Experience with or interest in STEAM education, outreach, or emergent technologies.
Demonstrated ability to provide small group instruction, orientation, workshops, and tutorials.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate creative problem-solving instincts and ability to quickly learn and utilize non-traditional tools.
Monitor and maintain the CSIC hardware and software for optimal performance, including troubleshooting and resolving issues with the Makerspace Coordinator.
Formulate and implement policies and procedures for maintaining CSIC equipment including but not limited to: 3D printers, various electronics, computers, tools, and assorted hardware.
Interact, assist, and engage effectively and positively with a diverse population of K-12 students, UW students, faculty, staff, and members of the Laramie community.
Serve as an effective CSIC ambassador by answering questions, assisting visitors and users with constructing 3D designs, providing troubleshooting, and promoting CSIC resources.
Provide small group instruction, orientation, workshops, and tutorials, potentially including creating and developing teaching materials, handouts, and online resources.
Attend staff meetings and/or training sessions to achieve CSIC objectives, encourage teamwork, strengthen communication, and enhance professional growth.
Perform other duties as required or assigned, focusing on makerspace upkeep, programming, visitor engagement, and fabrication of various projects.
Work smoothly and effectively with other departments across UW, while striving to meet CSIC expectations and goals.
