About The Position

NORY is seeking an educator to design, build, and deliver STEM projects for children aged 3-12. This role involves creating lesson plans, training teachers, and providing on-site coaching at campsites. The curriculum developed will be used by thousands of children annually, with a focus on high-quality maker education. The position requires a blend of curriculum development, hands-on project creation, and teacher coaching, aiming to shape how Generation Alpha experiences STEM.

Requirements

  • Experience designing curriculum and teaching it.
  • Hands-on STEM maker experience, including woodworking, basic electronics (circuits, motors), Arduino, computing platforms like Raspberry Pi or Microbits, and coding tools like Scratch.
  • Ability to be on the ground at campsites across NYC during the summer season.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing detailed guides, recording walkthroughs, and providing live feedback.
  • Understanding of child development and how to tailor projects and coaching for different age groups (e.g., 4-year-olds vs. 10-year-olds).
  • A portfolio of your own STEM projects is expected.
  • Coding knowledge is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Turn hands-on STEM projects into lesson plans for children ages 3 to 12, covering learning objectives, pacing, scaffolding, and differentiation across age bands.
  • Wrap each project in an immersive theme, creating a captivating experience for children.
  • Build and prototype STEM projects alongside the Fabricator team and fellow curriculum developers, including woodworking, basic electronics, Arduino, Microbits, and Scratch.
  • Build training materials and run training sessions at HQ.
  • Coach teachers at campsites during the summer, observing classrooms, providing feedback, and assisting with lessons.
  • Document work meticulously to connect with teams responsible for materials, hiring, and venue operations.
  • Pilot lessons, gather teacher feedback, and iterate on projects to ensure they are fail-proof before deployment.
