Xcel Energy•Denver, CO
•$81,000 - $156,600•Hybrid

About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring a Major Project Civil Engineer at the staff, senior, or principal level to support construction of new electric generation stations in Colorado. The role participates in design and construction of utility-scale renewable and dispatchable generation projects, collaborating with EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, Operations, construction teams, and company engineers to achieve strong facility performance. The successful candidate should expect to be onsite at least three days per week through the end of site commissioning; afterward, a hybrid office arrangement is anticipated. Strong communication, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision are important. The role applies engineering principles and technical standards to complex assignments, develops solutions independently, and supports technical documentation, project activities, and engineering processes. Work may include technical support for operations, maintenance, testing, and regulatory matters; field oversight of commissioning, testing, and inspections; coordination of project phases; bid and proposal evaluation; and communication with internal groups and external customers. The engineer may provide direction and mentoring to other personnel and support budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work-order management. The level will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s skills and experience. Staff-level qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, preferably civil engineering, and at least two years of relevant engineering experience. Senior-level qualifications include the same degree and five years of relevant experience with EIT/FE, or seven years without it. Principal-level qualifications include the same degree and nine years of relevant experience with PE registration, or 15 years without PE. Salary ranges are $81,000–$106,267 for staff, $97,000–$129,267 for senior, and $112,000–$156,600 for principal. The anticipated starting base pay range for the position is $81,000–$156,600 per year.
