About The Position

This position supports the Public Works Department of Grant County. Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Site Supervisor or Maintenance Manager, staff in the Maintenance series perform a range of tasks, including building and grounds maintenance, event setup, and custodial services, to ensure the proper and safe functioning of equipment and buildings. Employees in this series work in various locations across the county, including offices, jail facilities, and fairgrounds, and may be assigned to work in different environments. Their responsibilities require a range of skills, from unskilled labor to highly skilled craft work, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and electronics. The Maintenance series is comprised of four levels, with each level having more complex responsibilities and requirements. The entry-level position focuses on grounds maintenance and assisting higher-level staff, while the middle levels perform general maintenance services and may oversee subordinates on specific projects. The highest level requires advanced expertise in specialized fields and requires a journey level certification or equivalent, with advancement being subject to specific needs and approval by the Board of County Commissioners. Overall, the series progresses from basic maintenance tasks to more complex and specialized work, with increasing levels of responsibility and expertise.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in the cleaning and sanitation of buildings, building maintenance (basic carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing) (for Maintenance 2)
  • 3 years of facilities maintenance experience including inspection of building systems such as roofs, electrical, lighting, HVAC, pavement, plumbing (for Maintenance 2)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of experience in building construction, building maintenance and repair, electrical, plumbing, heating, chilling, electronic equipment, framing, concrete laying and finishing, roofing, window and door installation, maintenance and repair of complex machinery and equipment (for Maintenance 3)

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional customer service by ensuring seamless event execution, addressing customer needs, and enforcing compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains event venues, including setup and takedown, to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for customers, and contributes to the overall success of events and rentals.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, including power tools, trucks, backhoes, and tractors, to perform tasks such as landscaping, grounds maintenance, and event setup, while ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Maintains the appearance and functionality of grounds and facilities by performing tasks such as mowing, raking, sweeping, irrigating, and trimming, to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for customers and visitors.
  • Maintains public areas in a clean and sanitary condition, to ensure a positive and healthy environment.
  • Prepares and maintains landscaping features, including planting, watering, and maintaining ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, and flowers, to create a visually appealing and well-maintained environment.
  • Removes snow and ice from pathways and public areas during winter months to ensure safety and accessibility.
  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system to track work assignments, report progress, and manage materials and resources, to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
  • Supports higher-level maintenance personnel with tasks such as carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, to ensure the overall upkeep of facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains the integrity and appearance of buildings by performing routine repairs, minor renovations, and preventative maintenance, ensuring a safe and clean environment for public use.
  • Installs, tests, and maintains electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic devices, as well as HVAC equipment, to provide reliable and efficient systems that support the organization's operations.
  • Constructs, remodels, and maintains buildings and structures, including walls, rooms, and entire buildings, to provide functional and comfortable spaces that meet the organization's needs.
  • Performs building maintenance tasks, such as painting, refinishing, and replacing doors, windows, flooring, and lighting fixtures, to preserve the condition and extend the lifespan of facilities and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency repairs, such as unclogging plumbing, and maintains indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, including replacement of ballasts, to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
  • Collaborates with contractors and other maintenance staff to install and maintain HVAC equipment, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Uses diagnostic equipment and blueprints to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment and systems, ensuring efficient and effective maintenance operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
