Maintenance Worker - Utility Services
About The Position
The Maintenance Worker operates trucks, light tractors with mower attachments, and similar vehicles, and performs routine repairs to facilities, furnishings, systems, or machinery. Work may include duties at higher or lower skill levels as part of a developmental assignment or on an incidental basis. The role supports higher-level trades personnel with equipment, machinery, and facility repairs, testing, and servicing. It also involves transporting tools and materials, assisting with equipment startup and shutdown, cleaning and maintaining equipment and vehicles, performing grounds and paving work, and keeping work areas and activity records orderly. Other work may be assigned.
Requirements
- Education equivalent to completion of the tenth school grade.
- Six to twelve months of experience in equipment or facility maintenance or repair work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- A criminal background check may be required.
Responsibilities
- Works with higher-level trades personnel to service, repair, and test equipment, machinery, and structural elements of facilities.
- Carries and positions tools, materials, supplies, and replacement parts at job sites for testing, installation, repairs, or other work.
- Assists with repairs and starts up or shuts down equipment and machinery, including laundry and boiler plant equipment.
- Cleans equipment by brushing and dusting debris from burners, hatches, pipes, and conduits.
- Keeps work and storage areas orderly.
- Records activities, materials used, repairs or other work undertaken, and relevant circumstances of each job.
- Operates a light tractor with attachments.
- Operates hand and bench power tools, including air compressors, jack hammers, and painting and spraying equipment.
- Provides routine cleaning and preventive maintenance for equipment and vehicles.
- Spreads and rakes gravel or asphalt for driveway patching and resurfacing.
- Prunes, sprays, feeds, fertilizes, and stakes trees and shrubs in park areas, and otherwise cares for them.
- Rough-finishes concrete and performs pointing tasks.
- Performs other work as assigned.
