About The Position

This position is responsible for performing various tasks involving maintenance of parks, beach accesses, recreational structures, and related facilities at Mallery Park on Saint Simons Island. The role involves maintaining park grounds, beach accesses, recreational structures, and related facilities. Park Maintenance operates 365 days a year, requiring flexibility in scheduling for holidays and events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two (2) months of previous experience and/or training involving general building maintenance, general building trades, road construction/maintenance, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and/or maintenance work in the area of assignment.
• Valid Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

• Empty trash and recycling containers and transport to designated areas.
• Mow, edge, seed, fertilize, and water park grounds.
• Apply herbicide and pesticides as directed.
• Install, inspect, and repair irrigation systems.
• Prune/remove trees and shrubs.
• Dig holes/trenches and shovel/spread materials.
• Install/repair and paint fences, benches, and picnic tables.
• Remove litter and debris from park grounds, including picnic areas, barbeque grills, and cigarette butt receptacles.
• Remove any small dead animals within the parks.
• Supply dog parks with waste disposal bags and remove waste collection.
• Perform custodial tasks in park restrooms, including sweeping, mopping, disinfecting surfaces, and replenishing restroom products.
• Visually inspect playground areas and equipment, and report any safety hazards to the supervisor.
• Repair and paint playground equipment as directed.
• Patrol beaches and accesses for litter, debris, and safety hazards.
• Report safety hazards and any dead/injured wildlife to the supervisor.
• Remove dead animals as directed.
• Inspect, report, and repair damage to beach access boardwalks and signage.
• Remove any beach chairs, umbrellas, or tents from the beach, according to county ordinance.
• Install sand fencing, if directed.
• Install/remove Mobi-mats.
