Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Maintenance Worker performs a number of duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting. Requirements

  • Grade 10 education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Various Trade experience would be an asset
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Secord Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the following areas, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration and general building maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable in preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ability to operate equipment related to physical plant maintenance.
  • Familiar with computer operation.
  • Knowledgeable with computerized DDC building systems.
  • Ability to strip and wax floors
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.

Nice To Haves

  • Various Trade experience would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and if required installs plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks, and toilets.
  • Performs mechanical and electrical repairs to equipment such as HVAC units, kitchen equipment, therapeutic tubs, sterilizers, clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, wheelchairs, light fixtures, etc.
  • Performs plastering, painting and decorating for repairs.
  • Ensures that supplies are received, stored, and redistributed to appropriate departments.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required.
  • Monitors and adjusts heating, temperature controls for both facility and water, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating the automated DDC building system.
  • Ensures the maintenance of the building exterior, interior and grounds, as appropriate.
  • Maintains a safe living and working environment through compliance with policies and procedures, rules and regulations governing facility safety and safety in the work place.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
