About The Position

This position performs work involving manual labor and physically demanding unskilled and limited semi-skilled tasks. Works as a part-time employee within the Refuse Division supporting the safe and efficient daily operation of the Green Waste Facility. Duties include but are not limited to assisting with the Green Waste Facility and Refuse Division duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must Possess a valid Utah Driver's License
  • Some knowledge of tools used in maintenance and solid waste operations and of precautions necessary to work safely around mechanized equipment
  • Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, equipment and powered tools
  • Learn computerized point-of-sale and record-keeping systems
  • Accurately handle and account for money
  • Carry out written and verbal instructions
  • Must provide strong customer service
  • Communicate effectively
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of twelfth grade is preferred
  • Experience operating Log splitters, woodchippers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, pressure washers, air compressors, cart washers, wash bay equipment used by the Refuse Division, or similar equipment
  • Experience in cash handling and customer service are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operating Log splitters, woodchippers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, pressure washers, air compressors, cart washers, wash bay equipment, and other equipment used by the Refuse Division
  • Performing daily equipment inspections and routine preventive maintenance
  • Reporting equipment deficiencies and repair needs
  • Safely loading, unloading, processing, moving, and stocking green waste products
  • Maintaining facility grounds, work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Provides courteous and professional customer service to residents and visitors
  • Assists all customers with Green Waste Facility services and products
  • Operates the computerized point-of-sale system and cash register
  • Accurately receives and processes cash and credit card transactions
  • Balances and reconciles the daily cash drawer
  • Maintains accurate sales and inventory
  • Follows OSHA requirements and all City and departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Uses required personal protective equipment
  • Works safely around customers, vehicles, moving equipment, and powered machinery
