About The Position

The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. They are leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City, working for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives. Beacon Community Centers, located in public schools across New York City, serve youth from kindergarten through age 21 and adults ages 22 and older, including Older Adults. These centers operate year-round during non-school hours, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and summers, providing integrated programming tailored to local needs. During the summer, Beacons collaborate with the New York City Public Schools for the Summer Rising initiative. The Maintenance Worker collaborates with the Coordinator and Director to ensure the facilities are clean and safe for participants.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have ability to work collaboratively
  • Have energy, motivation and skills needed to work independently
  • Comfortably engaging youth
  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Familiarity with Social Services setting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as a team member

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Custodian or Maintenance worker a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the upkeep of facilities
  • Performing Building Routine Maintenance
  • Ensure everything is in good working order
  • Maintain classrooms and shared spaces: sweeping, mopping, garbage removal
  • Handle simple repairs related to plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and general building maintenance
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure safety
  • Work with Goddard facilities personnel
  • Other duties as required and assigned by Program Director, Coordinator and Senior Management
  • Demonstrate professionalism & leadership
