Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training and two (2) years related experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, and heating, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning and drainage systems; recommend contracted assistance when on-site repair is not possible.
  • Utilize hand tools, electrical tools, or battery operated tools to make repairs or replacements.
  • Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, and fuses as directed.
  • Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.
  • Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.
  • Perform repair or replacement of plumbing, fixtures, washers, seals, etc.
  • Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e. painting as directed.
  • Direct inmates assigned to department.
  • Document work order status, completion, or if outsourced repairs are needed.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance checks of buildings and equipment.
  • Perform routine scheduled checks of air conditioning, heating systems, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Perform counts of all control items assigned to include tools carts and tool bags, and any other control items including class A tools and equipment by providing counts daily before and after shift.
  • Follow all safety regulations to include the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self as well as staff and offenders assigned to the maintenance department.
  • Perform on-call support in emergency situations when equipment malfunctions.
