About The Position

This Maintenance Worker position is part of a career development track, which includes the Maintenance Worker I, II and III levels, depending on qualifications. Maintenance Workers perform routine labor functions in the general maintenance and construction of public infrastructure and facilities, and can be placed on any of three crews (Right of Way, Pavement, or Stormwater).

Requirements

High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment) with acceptable driving record.
A minimum of 4 years work experience in construction and/or maintenance.

Nice To Haves

Previous construction and/or maintenance experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Performs routine duties in the construction and repair of streets, public walkways and roadways.
Performs stormwater drainage construction and maintenance.
Sets up work zone traffic signs and other signs as required.
Picks up debris and miscellaneous objects on streets and at work sites.
Mows grass with hand mower, tractor mower or riding mower along public thoroughfares.
Operates manual or small powered equipment for street maintenance, drainage, or right-of-way mowing.
Operates one ton and 2 ½ ton truck to haul materials and equipment to and from job site.
Loads and unloads materials and equipment from trucks.
Performs routine preventative maintenance and other minor maintenance work on department vehicles and motorized equipment.
Performs snow removal and ice control operations and other emergency operations (e.g., natural disasters).
Removes storm damaged trees, landscaping or structures.
Maintains records, reports, and other documents as necessary.
