About The Position

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for safely maintaining FBCL’s properties and assets; including bridges, buildings, utilities, roadways, fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus 3 years’ of experience in hands-on maintenance
• Excellent initiative, troubleshooting skills, and problem solving
• Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
• Ability to read and follow drawings, operations and maintenance manuals and parts catalogs
• Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair machines
• Strong communication, organizational, time management and documentation skills
• Ability to bend, stoop and climb
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding and in confined spaces
• Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour basis
• Possession of a valid G driver’s license
• DZ license or ability to acquire DZ license within 4 months of hire
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Security Clearance is required
• Ability to demonstrate and maintain English speaking, reading and writing

Responsibilities

• Operate various elevated work platform such as 125’ Genie, 50’ Bucket truck, to access and work on various section of the bridges
• Climb tall structures safely and confidently to heights of up to 80 meters (260’)
• Clean surfaces for recoating and recoat
• Power wash bridge surfaces and structural cleaning
• Carry out civil and mechanical repairs/maintenance of the bridge components, such as brush block (curb), potholes, expansion joints, bearings, and structural members
• Perform snow cleaning and salting using plow trucks, tractors, loader and manually
• Maintain fleet vehicles and heavy equipment
• Maintain bridge visual aids such as lights, light standards, and signage
