About The Position

The Village of Hanover Park is seeking a Maintenance Worker for its Streets department. This role is responsible for a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safety and integrity of Village infrastructure and public spaces. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, two years of experience in street, construction, or water/sewer maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Class B Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire, is required. This is a full-time position that may require responding to emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two years of experience in street, construction, or water/sewer maintenance and repair
  • Possession of a valid Class B Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Execute precision repairs to concrete and asphalt assets, including curb, gutter, and sidewalk restoration, to maintain Village standards for pedestrian and vehicular safety.
  • Performs street maintenance and repair tasks using shovels, tampers, rakes, jackhammers, and other hand equipment, including pouring and shoveling asphalt, concrete, gravel, hot and cold patch, oil, and similar materials.
  • Drives a variety of vehicles on a daily basis and receives training in the operation and care of vehicles and equipment used.
  • Repairs curbing, storm sewers, and sidewalks using jackhammers, picks, shovels, and other related equipment.
  • Fragments curbing and sidewalks for replacement and removal; places forms, shapes, and finishes concrete, and patches adjoining road surfaces.
  • Manages stormwater infrastructure through jetting, catch-basin reconstruction, and pipe repair to mitigate local flooding and protect the watershed.
  • Repairs yards and fences; replaces or repairs catch basins, culverts, retaining walls, and broken drainage pipes.
  • Operates various equipment and drives various vehicles for the removal of snow and application of road salt to Village streets, lots, and municipal areas during inclement weather.
  • Preserves the visual integrity of the community by executing graffiti abatement programs on public and private property, utilizing specialized blasting and surface restoration techniques.
  • Repairs cleaned surfaces, including painting, staining, and sanding.
  • Responsible for graffiti removal on all areas within Village boundaries, including private property and the public right-of-way.
  • Repairs or replaces regulatory or indicator signs within the Village jurisdiction and manufactures required signs.
  • Performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor.
  • Reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible, but no later than the end of the employee's work shift.
  • Follows recognized safe work practices.
  • Responds to emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated.
