About The Position

Under supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance in County parks, including landscaped areas, sports facilities and open space; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill an anticipated full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • One year of full-time experience performing basic maintenance work in a park, landscaping, or related environment including irrigation, plant care, chemical application, and/or grounds maintenance equipment use; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Certification as a pesticide applicator must be obtained from the Department of Agriculture within six months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm with performing grounds, parks, and/or landscape maintenance.
  • Previous full-time professional experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable grounds, parks or landscape maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of appropriate pesticide application according to federal and state laws and protocols.
  • Strong experience in the safe operation of grounds maintenance equipment, such as string trimmers, edgers, tractors, and riding mowers.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently.
  • Self-motivated, responsive, and have effective communication skills.

Benefits

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
  • Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
