About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance of city parks, facilities and grounds. The role involves performing various groundskeeping tasks, equipment maintenance, and assisting with landscaping and snow removal. Additionally, the position may involve overseeing part-time staff and responding to weekend and holiday needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ground maintenance and landscaping practices.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of cleaning practices.
  • General knowledge in the operation of outdoor equipment used to maintain turf and landscaping including mowers, trimmers, pick-up trucks and other general tools.
  • General knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • A demonstrated understanding of safety guidelines.
  • The ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principals relevant to the major duties of the position.
  • Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive personal leave.
  • Successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test and background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mowing, trimming and other lawn care of facilities and parks including turf care and chemical application.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of city parks and facilities.
  • Provides oversight of part time staff when necessary.
  • Performs landscaping and snow removal.
  • Removes dead and hazardous trees.
  • Removes trash.
  • Cleans restrooms and shelters.
  • Available to respond and work weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Participates in a weekend rotation to provide coverage of trash collection and shelter and bathroom cleaning.
  • Assists senior level staff with construction projects and other related projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
