About The Position

This position involves carrying out the maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Responsibilities include mowing and weed eating grass, cutting and trimming trees, cleaning restrooms, and maintaining swimming pools and ball fields. The role also encompasses landscaping, painting, dirt work, graffiti removal, and trash pick-up. Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume. This position requires availability to work on weekends as part of the regular schedule, with shifts that can vary depending on needs and location. Essential functions may include mowing and weed eating grass at city parks and medians, trimming and cutting trees, cleaning restrooms and the community center, performing routine repairs on park equipment, picking up litter, and adhering to all safety rules and procedures. The role also involves actively participating in safety meetings, promptly reporting accidents and unsafe conditions, potentially applying pesticides, assisting with special events, and serving in emergency management roles such as shelter, debris removal, and recovery. Providing quality customer service to city staff, the public, and work contacts is also a key aspect of the position.

Requirements

  • High school graduate and or its equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of light machinery operation and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of CPR.
  • Ability to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with plumbing, equipment safety, chemical safety and maintenance, horticulture, playground safety, tractors, mowers, and irrigation.
  • Reads and comprehends warning labels and road signs.
  • Ability to handle playground safety, reports, and vandalism reports.
  • Ability to measure and mix cleaning agents.
  • Ability to follow instructions on use of chemicals, and park safety procedures (playground & equipment).
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required.
  • Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s license preferred (or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment)
  • Pesticide Application License preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mows and weed eats grass at city parks and medians.
  • Trims and cuts trees.
  • Cleans restrooms at parks and cleans the community center.
  • Performs routine repairs on equipment in the park.
  • Picks up liter in the parks and other city facilities.
  • Performs all job duties according to all approved safety rules and procedures.
  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.
  • Promptly reports all accidents, injuries, theft, loss, and broken/damaged equipment/property to their immediate supervisor.
  • Reports or corrects all unsafe practices or conditions they observe to their immediate supervisor.
  • May apply pesticides.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned to assist with special events, etc.
  • Serves in extension of current duties as required for emergency management, particularly in the areas of shelter, debris removal, and recovery.
  • Provides quality customer service to city staff, the general public, and all other work contacts.
