About The Position

Reporting to the Maintenance & Operations Assistant Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs a variety of technical unskilled tasks and may be required to help with semi-skilled tasks, related to the upkeep of Nova Scotia Health properties (facilities & grounds) and related infrastructure, including but not limited to operating, monitoring, maintenance, and service requirements of all grounds and facility related infrastructure and equipment, aiding other maintenance and operations trades, and other related duties as required. Assists with and/or maintains and follows operational, equipment, tools, & safety codes, standards, and procedures. Duties may include replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, small wall repairs, painting, filters, unclogging sinks and toilets, and preventative maintenance on equipment lubrication, condition monitoring, lawn mowing, snow removal, water filter changes, etc. Travel within the zone or other zones as needed.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Ability to properly use various manual and powered hand tools required.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and observation of safe work practices is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers (e.g. Microsoft Office) required.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Building maintenance experience is an asset.
  • Experience driving small equipment (e.g. lawn tractors/mowers, snow blowers, etc.).
  • Travel to other sites may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Unclogging sinks and toilets.
