About The Position

This position performs street maintenance and repair duties. Constructs or repairs driveways, speed bumps, spill ways, cuts, overlays, edge ruts, and potholes. Sets up work related signs and traffic cones; directs traffic at work sites. Spreads, smoothes, and shapes asphalt. Operates wheelbarrow to transport asphalt; applies asphalt as appropriate. Loads and unloads truck with proper materials. Applies tar. Operates roller and dump truck. Cleans truck and other equipment. Grades ground for concrete work; sets up concrete forms. Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the fleet yard. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of street maintenance activities.
Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the performance of street maintenance activities.
Knowledge of the safe operation of assigned equipment.
Skill in problem solving and decision making.
Skill in the operation of hand tools and other assigned equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
