About The Position

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker I supports the daily operation of the City of Wilmington’s wastewater treatment plant and sewer system. The position cleans and inspects sewer lines, operates plant equipment, helps with wastewater testing, makes repairs, and maintains plant buildings and grounds. The work includes both plant duties and outdoor work throughout the City.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance plan.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, use tools and equipment safely, perform physical labor, and work with others.
  • This position involves work outdoors and around wastewater, moving equipment, noise, and other hazards.
  • It is classified as medium physical work and may require occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and uses camera equipment to inspect sanitary sewers, storm sewers, manholes, and related facilities.
  • Removes debris and blockages from sewer lines, catch basins, and other drainage structures.
  • Repairs or replaces concrete around catch basins, sidewalks, drive approaches, and manholes.
  • Operates and adjusts pumps, valves, and other plant equipment.
  • Reads gauges and meters and records operating data.
  • Collects wastewater samples, performs laboratory analysis, and records results.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to plant equipment and assists with larger repairs.
  • Marks sewer lines before excavation and prepares lines for contractor repair or lining work.
  • Helps maintain plant buildings and grounds; oils, cleans, and paints equipment.
  • Follows job safety requirements, attends training as directed, and performs other duties as assigned.
