About The Position

The City of Lathrop is currently recruiting for a self-starting, dependable individual to join our team as a Maintenance Worker I/II/III. The level at which an individual is hired is based on their qualifications and experience. This position is assigned to a 4/10 work schedule and may include weekends. Incorporated in 1989, the City of Lathrop is located in the Northern San Joaquin Valley and sits east and west of the San Joaquin River. Interstate 5, Interstate 205, and State Route 120 intersect within the city. We are located approximately 70 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento. Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa Valley, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains are all located within 2 hours of Lathrop. Lathrop is centrally located within a 30-minute commute of Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Ripon, Lodi, Modesto, and Livermore. The Department’s January 1, 2026, population estimates show Lathrop grew from 38,791 residents in 2025 to 40,942 residents in 2026, an increase of 2,151 people, or 5.5%. The report ranks Lathrop as the second fastest-growing city in California with a population over 30,000, behind only Mountain House. Lathrop also ranked fifth among California cities under 300,000 residents for the largest numeric population increase. With the continued growth in the residential communities, our population is anticipated to reach approximately 70,000.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker I, II or III.
  • Maintenance Worker I: A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintenance Worker II: In addition to the above, one year of experience in construction and maintenance of streets, parks, buildings or utilities equivalent to that of a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Lathrop.
  • Maintenance Worker III: In addition to above, should possess the equivalent of three years of increasingly responsible experience in the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, parks, buildings, grounds or utilities.
  • Possession of a valid class C California driver’s license.
  • Initial training- CA Title 22 Hazardous Waste Generator Training (4 hour), Site Specific Emergency Response Contingency Plan Action Guide Training (2 hour), HAZCOM Training (2 hour).
  • Annual Refresher - CA Title 22 Hazardous Waste Generator Training (4 hour), Site Specific Emergency Response Contingency Plan Action Guide Training (2 hour), HAZCOM Training (2 hour).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED, Blood Borne Pathogens Defensive Driving Course Traffic Control/Flagger

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in construction, maintenance or landscape work is desirable (for Maintenance Worker I).
  • Possession of a class B California driver’s license is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled work under immediate supervision; performs the routine and less complex assignments within an established procedural framework, where there are minimal consequences of error, including a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks in streets, parks, buildings, public facilities and utilities.
  • Performs a full range of duties related to the operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s streets, parks, buildings, public facilities and utilities.
  • Performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, parks, buildings, public facilities, and utilities and provide lead direction and training to assigned crews.
  • Learns to perform and performs the full array of routine and complex tasks and duties assigned to classes within the Maintenance Worker series, including skilled and semi-skilled work in streets, storm drain basins, parks, buildings and public facilities; assists other staff when assigned; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required.
  • Based on the level of the assigned individual, performs maintenance, repair, construction and installation work of the sanitary sewer, storm collection and water distribution systems and related facilities including fire hydrants and backflow prevention devices; cleans and maintains sewer lines, storm lines, water lines, valves, hydrants and lift stations; locates and repairs water leaks, damaged lines and valves; locates and marks underground utility infrastructure according to USA/811 guidelines and color codes; installs shoring and related safety equipment; pours and finishes concrete; operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and equipment including hydro vactors, hydro cleaners, and closed circuit televising equipment.
