About The Position

The Department of Administrative Services is looking to fill a Maintenance Worker 2 position on the Capitol Complex that will serve as part of the Grounds and Custodial Team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks to maintain landscaping, building aesthetics, and ensure a clean and safe environment. This role involves operating various equipment, performing semi-skilled maintenance, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time work experience in semi-skilled grounds keeping, maintenance, or equipment operation.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twelve months of full-time work as a Maintenance Worker 1.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License and/or commercial applicators 30T certification.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire (for designated positions).
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements and applicable restrictions within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must participate in ongoing random drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Must comply with Federal drug and alcohol testing program regulations.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of mowers, weed whips, edgers, and pruners to maintain landscaping and building aesthetics.
  • Serve as transportation for pick up and delivery of mail, cargo, and other materials.
  • Operate flatbed trucks, tractors, and end loaders.
  • Use equipment such as forklifts, vehicles, and four-wheel tractors to move materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Service and make minor repairs on equipment, including air compressors.
  • Operate small hand and power tools (e.g., chain saw, electric drills, welding equipment) for semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Keep the workplace clean and organized.
  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Remove and install signage and posts.
  • Move office furniture and equipment.
  • Operate post hole diggers and electric drills.
  • Assist in the installation and removal of concrete and landscaping materials.
  • Operate jackhammers, skid loaders, and cement mixers.
  • Maintain flower and garden beds, including pruning, trimming, weeding, spraying, and mulching.
  • Operate pruners, weed whips, and sprayers.
  • Assist in the set-up and clean-up of events.
  • Maintain vehicle logs, maintenance, and damage reports.
  • Respond to emergency weather conditions, including operating snowplows, small bulldozers, sanders, and tractors for grounds maintenance and snow removal.
  • Clean assigned facilities and grounds, including surfaces, kitchenettes, offices, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Use tools such as brooms, dust mops, squeegees, fans, de-humidifiers, vacuums, and extractors.
  • Manage work requests (verbally, phone, email, Work Order System) for prioritizing and delegation, aiming to complete requests within 24 hours.
  • Dust, clean, and polish furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
  • Replenish paper and plastic products.
  • Remove and dispose of various categories of waste.
  • Make minor repairs to tables, restroom fixtures, and custodial equipment.
  • Replace lights.
  • Perform safety and security checks and report findings.
  • Transfer furniture and equipment for cleaning and redecorating.
  • Apply sand and ice melt to sidewalks and stairs.
  • Remove snow, ice, sand, and debris from steps, sidewalks, and building areas.
  • Reserve equipment, and issue/set up tables and chairs for events.
  • Complete professional training as directed.
