About The Position

The Maintenance Welder shall provide welding and metal fabrication services in support of the repair and replacement of various structures and equipment at the Sandia National Labs Kauai Test Facility. This role requires frequent work beyond typical Maintenance Welder duties to support mission operations, involving collaboration with other trades. Responsibilities include fabricating or repairing items using brazing, gas and arc welding, thermal cutting, grinding, operating sheet metal machines, and various hand tools. Additionally, the role involves operating metal shop equipment such as a lathe, mill, drill press, and grinder for fabricating maintenance items.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and client drug screen.
  • Broad background in structural maintenance skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Qualified for manual shielded metal arc welding of unlimited thickness plate, and square and rectangular tubing, groove and fillet welds, all positions, under American National Standards Institute/American Welding Society (ANSI/AWS) D1.1-90 (structural steel) and ANSI/AWS D14.1-85 (material handling equipment).
  • Must possess (or able to obtain) an active DOE L clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Qualifications under ANSI/AWS D1.2-90 (structural aluminum) and ANSI/AWS D9.1-90 (sheet metal) are desired.
  • Preference will be given to those with an active clearance.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a welder, with appropriate exposure to and abilities in the other structural maintenance areas discussed above.

Responsibilities

  • Support welding and metal fabrication and machine services in support of the Sandia National Labs Kauai Test Facility.
  • Perform frequent work requirements beyond a typical Maintenance Welder to support mission operations, working with and supporting other trades.
  • Fabricate or repair items including brazing, gas and arc welding processes, thermal cutting, and grinding.
  • Use sheet metal working machines and a variety of hand tools in cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting and installing required sheet metal articles.
  • Operate metal shop equipment such as a lathe, mill, drill press, and grinder for use in fabricating required maintenance items.
